Every major successful business has become a recognized brand through their logo.  Think:  Nike's swoosh, Apple's apple, and McDonald's golden arches.  There are a lot of other companies that provide similar products and services as these companies, but when someone mentions sneakers, MP3 players, or fast food, guess who comes to mind first?  In large part, this can be attributed to the company logos that provide a constant and consistent visual reminder to the consumer.

Now you might be thinking "I work for [insert nationally recognized company here].  They've already branded themselves and I just use their logo."  If you work for one of these big-time companies, great.  Use that brand recognition for all it's worth!  But, you need to also think about two things:

1.  What happens if you ever decide to move to a new company?

2.  In the eyes of the general public who doesn't know you, what makes you any different than every other agent at that company?

Create your own logo and brand yourself!  You can (and probably should) still use your company's logo, but it's very important to also create a personal business logo and brand yourself as well.  Put your logo on every letter, postcard, and email you send out, and make yourself stand out.  People will start to know you and not just your company.

Great advice.. Any tips on how to create your logo?

I have thought about logos but not sure which way to go. I would like to use a large logo with a smaller broker logo...maybe tomorrow!

I love logos but I have never been able to come up with one. Christina - there are programs you can use, some are free, just google it. There are also companies you can hire - Good Luck - Good Post!

I have created a logo, but I'm not sure I like it. I'm forming a real estate "team" & I wanted something to identify us no matter what bokerage or company we are with. What do you think?

I LOVE the idea of using a logo. I've been trying to come up with one that is more like a SYMBOL but I just draw a blank. The only reason why I don't like this logo as much as my "dream logo" is because it is words. I'm trying to find a symbol instead of a word or phrase.

It is a lot harder than it looks to design a logo & come up with an idea.

Anyone else have one to share?

Meghan,

Great post.  We've been using and marketing our personal brand for almost 5 years.  We spent almost 6 years with REMAX and are now with ERA and while they have great branding, we're more than just another REMAX or ERA agent.  It's about individuality.  We use our logo on everything; website, stationary, business cards, etc.  Logoworks.com created ours; they were wonderful to work with.  I think we went through 4 or 5 drafts and several color changes before we got it right.  Locally we're very branded.

CHRISTINA:  Get started by brainstorming things that say something about you or your business.  For example, what are your hobbies?  what is your niche?  Once you have a general idea, try searching your term on google images.  Alternatively, vistaprint.com has a great logo section.  I created both my personal logo (realtor logo) there, as well as the "Next Level" logo (coaching, training & consulting team):

RAY- I love your logo.  Great play off "The A Team".  I would keep it as is, and not worry about replacing it with a symbol.  A lot of very well recognized companies use a "word-based" logo.  Ever heard of The Home Depot?

JESSEE & KATHY:  "Spouses Selling Houses"... great slogan/logo, and easy to remember!

WOW!  I love everyone's logos!  How do did you create them?

Thank you for all the tips. It is such a great article. Had fun reading it. If you are looking for a quality logo for your real estate company please check out at www.real-estate-internet-marketing.org. They were able to bring out what I was looking for when I wanted a logo done for my company, efficiently.
