Dena Stevens got a chuckle out of me today. In a comment on a recent post, she indicated that if I didn't stop talking about food, I'd earn myself a title...The Julia Childs of Blogging! That was my second "honorary title" this week.
The first was courtesy of a client. During a conversation about the real estate market in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he mentioned that he had spent some time on my blog recently. His exact comment was..."Lola, I spent half a day reading your articles. Later on I told my wife, this is not the same Lola we knew 5 years ago...she has become The Shakespeare of Blogging." I couldn't help myself...I burst out with peals of laughter!
What he was observing is a transformative change which has occurred in my business over the past 12 months. Blogging has made me a better writer and communicator because I do it regularly. But, most importantly, it has made me a better real estate agent. Through networking with other professionals, I have gained a much more comprehensive overview of what is happening in my community, state and nation. I have picked up tons of tips to enhance my services to my clients. I have been encouraged to preserve and have developed a very disciplined approach to researching and disseminating information. When, I talk about real estate now, I do so with much greater confidence.
Today, I was at a gathering and as usual was asked about how the real estate market is doing. My answer was, "I am grateful!" The hostess looked at me a little puzzled. But, she said, "We hear all these reports about houses not selling and how many homes are on the market..." I just smiled and said, "The truth is that we will sell almost as many homes this year as we Sold last year. We just have many more people trying to sell."
The Truth is the sky has NOT come crashing down. It has not been easy. But, we've upped the ante big time with regards to our professionalism and our skill set. This challenge has pulled out the best in us. We have Sold houses this year despite a mortgage crisis and a housing crisis and a consumer crisis. We just decided NOT to participate in them. We won't be participating in 2008 either.
The month of December is my 1 year blogging Birthday & I'm Wishing Myself A Happy Birthday. It's also my son's Birthday. Happy Birthday Michael...this one's for you. :)
