Fun Stuff! It's always nice to blog about things that are light-hearted and not so serious for once. I am supposed to tell you 5 things you don't know about me and then I get to tag 3 of you to go do the same.
I was not born in a hospital. This question always get me a slot on the people bingo when we play 20 questions, and somehow I am always the only one in the crowd who can sign off the square. Shockingly it still is a question at icebreakers. Oh, many of you may be wondering, where was I born? Well, borning answer. I was born in a bed. But the interesting part was I was delievered by my grandmother who was a midwife.
Me & my sister share a scar on our foreheads. Freaky things happen and it happened twice in our own home. We both fell down (more like rolled all the way down) the same flight of stairs when we were both 3. If you look really up close now, you can see a scar in our foreheads in the same approximate place.
I am a stager most of the time, but I am also a yoga teacher. Yes, I am a certified, 200+ hours trained yoga teacher who teaches 2 public classes and private sessions at night. I have even traveled to Germany to teach workshops this March. You can read about my other life at www.cindylinyoga.com or visit me on the website at the spa & studio that I teach: International Orange. (People asked me all the time "Why is it named International Orange?" The studio is named after the paint color of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. :) ) It's getting increasingly difficult to juggle my staging & yoga life, but yoga helps me with my sanity and keep me grounded. My one regret this year is the bottom half of the year I have been too distracted and have let my yoga side slip. It made me a lot more tense.
I made up my own major in college. Yes, in true rebellious Cal student fashion (and also one who never actually made it to class for some reason hmmmm), I somehow found a common thread that linked 3 majors that I wanted to take classes from and managed to made up my own major that actually sounded legit. And if case you are wondering... I received B.A. in Interdisplinary Fields Studies: Visual Representation & Manipulation (hmmm a bit like staging!). I also had a second major in Legal Studies.
I am not from this country. I used to joke that "hey, don't look at me, I am not from this country and I don't know what that means!" I don't say it anymore because none of my friends believe me anymore since I have been in the country for 11 years. When I first arrived here my English was at the same level of a fourth grader. I read my way to a 12th grader's level at the end of the same school year (1 book a day. It wasn't even difficult books. I read all the Beverly Clearly and other kids' books. So read to your kids!!) The following year I learned conversational English by watching 4 hours of TV sitcoms a night.
;) Now it's my turn to tag!
I am tagging:

Very nice blog. On a bed huh.. thanks to grandma! I need to start going on my massage chair and in my hot tub more since I am not a yoga person. Happy Holidays!
Hi Cindy - Your meme shows great desire and dedication; it was a fun read! I tagged Derek earlier. Here's his reponse. Have a great holiday and prosperous new year!
Cindi ~ may I wish you a BELATED "Welcome to America?" I've always admired people who can come to foreign soil, learn a new language and become very successful in life. I bet you are an awesome stager.
OK...I've been tagged again...let me think of 5 more things that you may not know about me....
1.) I have 3 children - all girls. Melissa - age 33, Aimee - age 31 and Sara Jo - age 28. Melissa works in Manhattan in Corporate Travel; Aimee is a Merchandise Planner at Macy's Herald Square - both live in Queens; Sara Jo, or 'Sass' as we call her, lives in Manhattan and is an actress who has been working on her craft since she was 12; she continues to audition (has appeared on television, commercials & print, voice-overs and an Off-Broadway musical) and appears regularly in showcases around the city.
2.) We have 5 dogs - A Soft-Coated Wheaten named Marley, 3 Pomeranians - Pearl (aka "Pearlie McDimples"), Bogart ("Bogie"), Mia (who was recently adopted), and a Bichon named Polonius ("Pelly").
3.) I am a licensed Insurance Broker and Underwriter who specializes in Commercial Marine Insurance, and until my Staging business becomes "Full-Time", I continue to work in that industry.
I did not choose to enter the Insurance Industry (don't think that anyone ever really does!), but rather 'fell into it' back in 1996.
4.) I LOVE the beach and anything coastal! I spend every free moment there in the 'warm' months and recently took up kayaking. I am so fortunate to live in a coastal community and love watching the sunset from the beach.
Two of my favorite places on Earth are Martha's Vineyard and Key West.
5.) I have loved decorating ever since I was a child. I remember going to my grandparent's house on the beach and making housing developments in the sand - complete with roads, 'stone cars and windows' and beach grass 'trees'. I also enjoyed 'staging' their little Beach House - I was always moving things around when I visited (they would actually have to call me at times in order to find things!) - keep in mind I was like 7 or 8 at the time!
I recently came upon a decorating project from my senior year of high school - I had to laugh when I looked at my choices for colors and furniture because everything resembled the "Brady Bunch" house! And by the way, I got an A+ on it!
So, now as the 'game' goes, I need to 'tag' 3 more people. I choose:
It sounds like you have lots of drive and determination which I think is just great. I love Yoga, actually Pilates a bit more so I think it is also great that you teach such a calming lifestyle which I am sure you practice.
I could not have imagined me delivering my own grandchild, I was so nervous watching my daughter in labor I am not sure how I would have handled that, that must have been something for your grandmother and mom to experience.
Thanks for memeing, I will try my best to come up with 5 other things that won't bore anyone
With all the holidays and house guests I haven't been dancing in the Rain for a while and I'm just get my umbrella back out! So here we go, five things you didn't know about me:
1) I have been married for 13 years this June (yes - I got married at the tender age of 21 - now quick how old am I??)
2) We have two boys, Liam age 8 and Ethan age 5. I still look at them and wonder where these two big lanky boys came from and still feel like I am no older than the day they were born!
3) I was born in Leicester, England and emigrated to Canada when I was 2 years old. We took a boat and arrived in Montreal Quebec) on a long weekend in August. My parents don't speak French and couldn't find a hotel that would allow our dog so she was smuggled in! We continued our journey to Ottawa where I lived until 3 years ago when we moved to Whitby (just outside of Toronto).
4) For fun we have a 24 foot power boat, basically a floating camper. I love to sit on the bow as we race through the water - it makes me feel like I am flying, of course I always wear my PFD becuase I am a crappy swimmer and terrified of falling in.
5) I have worked in advertising, purchasing, and "temped" in many other business.
Wow Val...how did I miss you tagging me? I just found this!
Karen Otto already tagged me, but I see others have had to do repeat MEME's for the numerous tags. Perhaps if there is any down time after the holidays. Sorry for the lateness!!!
