New Hampshire Home Stager, Transforming My New Home - Built-In Bookcases

In a recent post, The New Hampshire Home Stager Bait & Swithch I promised to share photos from the transformation of my new home.

In case you missed it:  Dining Room Living RoomMaster Bed & Bath, Kitchen

One of the more dramatic improvements we've made so far is in the family room.

One thing that drives me crazy is lots of exposed wires.  We've always housed our TV's in armoires for that hide all the wires and "stuff".

Making the decision to mount our tv to the wall in this house presented a challenge.  After a couple of days of looking at bookcases and TV cabinets to hold the cable box, surround sound amp, speakers, etc.....and not finding anything we liked,

Rick came up with a brilliant idea.

hole in the wall

He cut through the wall to create built-in shelves.  The family room is in the basement and the other side of this wall is the utility room.

Now all the wiring is out of sight and still easily accessible....

and we have some book shelves!

And for those of you following along....Yes, the family room is painted  Ben Moore Thunder.

Sharon- You and Rick are quite the team.  I can't stand all of those exposed wires either and having a wall mounted television can make it even harder.  I love Ben Moore's Thunder and love the solution you found.

Hi Sharon, this is absolutely terrific-no wires, no fuss-well maybe a little muss while he was cutting-but the moldings really make the entire unit look so together.  Lucky girl!!!

Sharon - The addition of those shelves not only cleaned up the appearance of that wall, they are very utilitarian!

Sharon, they look great! I saw a open house the other day that had about 6 of these cut out of the wall and all in a row like shaddow boxes, and inside each one they had a mask, a mask collection. Memorable!

Roger:  Rick and I both had a laugh from that comment!

Kathy:  My last house didn't have any bookcases or shelving at all...I'm excited to have a new place to decorate!

Sally:  Can't wait!

Maureen:  Now I just have to convince Jack and Zack they aren't for climbing.

Alexandra:  I appreciate that, thank you!

Julia:  I wondered how long before Larry got mentioned!  Good eye!

Joanna:  I'm lucky he's as handy as he is.  I can't believe how many clients I've worked with who need to hire someone to do every small thing because their husband is not able.

Myrl:  Should be fun deciding what to put there!

Ellen:  I wonder how many people were thrown by the masks and couldn't imagine what they would do with  the space....not exactly a universal style.

Anna:  We were lucky that there was a utility room on the other side of the wall...obviously this wouldn't be a solution for most people.  Worked great for us!

Not just looking good... there is balance too now. By the way, that "gray thunder" speaks to me. I see a bright future in this color for my home ; )

Janice:  Thank you!  I'm sure we could have mounted to the wall and hidden the wires inside the wall and ran them to a cabinet under the tv like most people, but I really wanted some shelves.  I am very happy with Rick's solution.

Lydie:  Well now I am going to be wondering if you use better let me know if you do!
