ActiveRain Success Story: Blogging for Business

The group Active Rain Block Party was founded by Brian Block, from Alexandria, VA  for the sole purpose of getting all the success stories in one place for us to read.  As Brian states, "More and more members are having success with blogging, getting more clients, more referrals, and becoming better professionals".

*Remember to tag your success story with ActiveRain Success Story!

So here is my story of my success with ActiveRain and the help I have received from a couple of the members for my current placement on google which landed me a couple of solid leads.

Answers from the GREAT BEYOND!!!  (play R.E.M!)

In my business here on Oahu, Hawaii (Honolulu County) I have been fortunate to have had referrals all year from past clients, friends and other agents. I have put my best foot forward to care about my clients first and foremost and to listen intently to their needs.

I also ask for help. About six months ago I started working on my new website (I like to work on my own so I can have fresh content and change whatever I want, when I want :). It took me about two months (while blogging too) to get it to the point where I wanted to publish it. I called a long time member here who helped me get it going with keywords and telling me what to do with my content to have it match with title, keywords, meta tags and content all together in perfect harmony. My website NEVER got hits before.

Then I started an outside blog and another member helped me with the title and keywords and things on that too. By then, I was getting "noticed" on Google. Both of these upstanding long time members have been coaxing me and coaching me throughout the last few months and I am very proud to say....I AM NOW ON PAGE ONE of Google for three main search terms I am concerned with for my market!

The following screen shot is from one of my search terms and I have 7 out of the 10 spots on page one of Google! And all sites are showing. http://www.activerain.com/  (of course), http://www.hawaiihomesmarket.com/ (my website), http://www.localism.com/ (with all my Localism posts!) and now my outside blog too!

In the past months I have received leads and though two decided to rent and two others decided they were unsure of their plans for the future, I do have two potential clients and one is solid. The most recent one contacted me two days ago. I asked how they found me and the soon to be wife said she typed in a couple of key words and I was all over the place on google and that she was not only impressed but wanted someone who was an expert with Hawaii Military Relocations.

The last two days I have been working diligently with long distance phone and emails to Afghanistan and the mainland and now? They are preapproved and I have set them up with auto notification of listings for single family homes! Within the last day the LO received the LES and authorization form signed and they will be here next month specifically for a house hunting trip for five days. They are sure we will be in contract by time they go back to the mainland to pack while the transaction is in escrow and going through the process.

This is success. Blogging for business means to serve the consumer with info on my area, the process and surely give them the time of day. You see....this current client said she had been in contact with a couple of other agents and they didn't give her the time of day. She and I both believe that people come into our lives for a reason and with her finding me on the internet ..... it's also listening and understanding THEIR needs.

Blogging for business.   Gee...I wonder who taught me that? ;)  Anything is possible.....won't know until you try.

Congratulations on your success so far, Sally. It's well deserved, and my bet is that it will keep growing. Keep up the good work!

Sally,

Nice job as always. It's been interesting to see how some have done with their outside blogs, looks like your is climbing. I actually think having both has a synergistic effect. It's just so difficult (as least for me) to find the time to keep both updated.

BTW, as a follow up with a post of yours in the past about the number of groups...I agree with you now more than ever before.

12/01/2007 11:31 PM by Orange Co. Real Estate~Lynda Eisenmann, Broker-Owner, Brea, CA (Preferred Home Brokers)

Aziz: Oh...more to come for you too!  Just gotta keep on it...learn from putting even your tags at the bottom of your posts...being consistent is the key!

Courtney: You're welcome!

Lisa: Thanks Lisa...you should be up there by now too!

Ray: I spread myself too thin my friend...will be around!

Jeff: Thanks buddy! I hope so...I sure like the placement. The hard work is all worthwhile isn't it?

Hi There soon to be Aloha girl Lynda!  I find time every week to put up something on the outside blog...tomorrow I will update my website and do some more "freshening" up the content. Gotta keep it fresh! ah....the number of groups...yup. ;)

Way to go Sally. This is very cool. Much of our last quarter's biz, and one of our current escrows, and one of the two buyers we had this weekend came from out blog. Yea... and we hope you are well.

Anyone who still doubts the value of AR simply isn't doing it right! I've said that before and it amazes me there are still people out there who doubt it.

12/01/2007 11:53 PM by Simon Conway (Picket Fence Realty)

Aww you Bolen guys.... of course we are all "well" together :)

Hi Simon! No kidding....and they get all discouraged...it's not being popular that counts...it's what is bringing in business and the connections we make with our peers. Hard to do either without support and listening to what people want :)

Sally- Congrats on your new client you got from blogging! I love it how this works, works every time, you give first, then you get. It is the law of giving. You know how to live that law and now you get to bask in the fruits of your giving by receiving a great client! I am very proud of you and impressed at how well you take care of your customers. Katerina: I have only done so by making sure I listen to others and what they are saying....and also how they respond. It's always a give and take situation....even in real life. It's not all about ME...that's for sure.

Sally, that is so awesome! Good for you. I think it's fun to be "found" because of AR. These best part about it is that it's free.

12/02/2007 05:53 AM by Linda Scanlan ~Selling All of North Texas (Hall Team Homes)

Sally, congratulations on your great success story.  I also love that my Active Rain blog and outside blog come up on Google for so many important keywords and searches and so many consumers are finding me.  Even without them telling me, when a person calls me about a particular neighborhood shortly after I've posted a blog about that area, I know it's from blogging.  I'm certain that you'll have continued success as time goes on.

12/02/2007 06:26 AM by Brian Block -- Northern Virginia & D.C. Real Estate (RE/MAX Allegiance)

Julie: You too are a great example of someone who has come a long way in a short period of time.. you are an inspirational and positive person and pleasant to "be around" :)

Randy: Yes it is!  I actually got this lead from my website but without ActiveRain and the help I received it would not have happened!

Linda: Free and when utilized properly and with respect it is a grand thing!

Good Morning Sunshine! The Sun is out, the rain is dried up and we have this new day to celebrate. Naturally I would want to share it with you.

I am so proud of you for what you are accomplishing and Yes, it is just the beginning. You write with such splendor and with sincerity but even more, it is You.  You walk the Talk and demonstrate true professionalism but even more than that, you welcome the friendship of many with an open heart.

Through your sincerity to do the right thing, you take it to a higher level and do the magnificent thing with perfection, sincerity and a passion unrivaled.

You are a  credit to the industry we share but also to mankind in your selfless pursuit to guide and mentor those whose heart you discover.

You are one fine lady Sally Chesseman and many rewards await you!

Brian:  This comment is especially for you.

And all this talk of time
Talk is fine
And I dont want to stay around
Why cant we pantomime, just close our eyes
And sleep sweet dreams
Being here with wings on our feet

Im breaking through
Im bending spoons
Im keeping flowers in full bloom
Im looking for answers from the great beyond..........

We have to continuously grow and learn or we remain stagnant in our own skin. I have learned that I cannot grow if I am following others paths instead of my own. You have come far Brian and there is no greater joy than the feeling of accomplishment in ANYTHING you do....meaning success. There can be small ones...big ones...some that do not mean anything to others but mean much to us.  Giving back here at ActiveRain means I give back in the form of supporting others just as you do. You give a lot to others to Brian and that I admire!

12/02/2007 12:16 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

William:  Did you get it yet?  :)    Ah....my breath of fresh air just blew in!  There you are my friend! I sure miss you when you go away from writing....  Even though we email and talk...it's not the same as seeing your writing with depth, soul and ...yes YOU too!  William, you have such a way with words that just brightens my day. I am honored with your kind words and awareness of my purpose for being here. If it were all for me I'd have been gone a long time ago!

12/02/2007 12:20 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Missy: You're darn right!  Hard work Missy...hard work...and everyone thought I was only blogging here...heck no!  I'm out there tweaking my own website, my outside blog, tweaking my words here on AR.....it's unreal Missy.  I keep going back in to change around and refresh it all as well. Got to keep new and refreshing stuff going on or it goes stagnant. Two weeks ago I went to look and ...Oops! some slipped a couple places...  that's what I get for not paying attention. Now I bumped the others to the second page :)

Frank:  For someone like me who didn't know much I have utilized AR for what it was meant for....info!! Networking!!!  I beg to differ with anyone who says it's only for fun. nope...there is a piece of me with all I write...a little humor and professionalism. yup.

Neal:  I have to say....you along with a few others kept telling me to do it...so I did it!

Cynthia:  Believe me..you are coming along just fine...  and with all the support you got here you have no where to go but up!

Teri:  I know you've been busy as well....good for you too!

12/02/2007 12:28 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Cindy: Thanks so much...and it's all about being consistant, determined and oh....quality content too!

Bill:  Believe me...I work hard to keep it there!

Vicki: Thanks a bunch!

Suzanne: You've been a positive here too!  Keep up your end too because this is what I strive for....not only helping new people but not forgetting those that supported me throughout...one of them you!

12/02/2007 12:36 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Morning friend.....

I am not surprised at your success....nor of the hard word that has paid off.  Your "mentors" have got to be just as proud as you are and everyone wins.....everyone wins when someone shows a Positive side to Real Estate..the person and the Professional.  You do indeed work hard, and your attitude does play a role in your success,  bubbly, infectious, knowledgeable and fun....what more could a client want :) :)

Sally...Way to go!  Thank you sharing your success with us.  It gives us an extra incentive to keep on blogging.  It's so interesting and fun to do but if we ever feel overwhelmed with things to do (when don't we?) this will help us to keep going.

Congratulations.  Hope the leads that are still "active" lead to sales.

Sally - What did you do differently to get your web higher on Google?

12/03/2007 09:58 PM by Scott Wall (StoneHouse Realty, Inc)

That's a great success story, and well deserved.  I will be checking out Lenn's blog next.  Thanks for the tip.

12/03/2007 10:27 PM by Georgina Hunter Maui Realtor R(S) (Jim Sanders Realty Inc. - Maui)

Scott: I believe what I do differently now compared to before is utilzing my title, author, keywords, content keywords, meta tags and such that they are all in sync and google is catching that. No matter what I believe it has to be original content and with a personal side to me as well.

Georgina: Lenn's great with her hard core real estate posts...she's one of my all time favorites!
