Holiday Fun, Family Fun and No TV!

XmasHere is our Holiday Gift to All. We have read these books many times, and yet we enjoy continuing to read them. We have a new family tradition in the making. We are doing something new. We gave up the TV.

We are reading out loud as the family gathers around and we read out loud our favorite books. We have a fire going and we each settle in our favorite chair with tasty warm drink. We take turns reading out loud. We work as using drama and inflection in our voice to make it more entertaining and fun.

Here is a list of the books we have had so much fun and enjoyment with:

Two Years Before the Mast - Richard Henry Dana, Jr.

The Boat Who Wouldn't Float - Farley Mowat

Waldon - Henry David Thoreau

The River Why - David James Duncan

All very different and rich in thought, expression and provocative conversation. If you don't own them, visit the library or Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com. Make your own picks and bring the family closer for the holidays! We are having a wonderful time with our new tradition.

This is a great idea - I think I am going to steal that from you and start that in my family.  Thanks

Reading is fun and doing it with family members is a great way to spend good quality time with love ones.

Jeanean - they named a river after a video game console??  That is SO cool! ;-)

That should get young folk to read it!

Vincent, We really have had the richest time with this activity. It like take away the need for mindless TV. It is so compelling compared to sitting in front of that tube! Thanks for commenting.
