We’ve had Christmas #1 at my house already, and my brother and sister in law got me a book of quotes called “The 2,548 Best Things Anybody Ever Said”, selected and compiled by Robert Byrne.

I do believe he’s probably right, and as a kind of book review I offer some of the quotes that we really liked as we passed the book around last night.

A blank page is God’s way of showing you how hard it is to be God.  ~Unknown

We had a quicksand box in our backyard.  I was an only child, eventually.  ~Steven Wright

Never let a computer know you’re in a hurry.  ~Unknown

I wasn’t kissing her.  I was whispering in her mouth.  ~Chico Marx

The only normal people are the ones you don’t know very well. ~ Joe Ancis

Time is nature’s way of keeping everything from happening at once.  ~Unknown

He’s such a hick he doesn’t even have a trapeze in his bedroom.  ~Unknown

Why do writers write?  Because it isn’t there.  ~Thomas Berger

I have enough money to last the rest of my life, unless I buy something.  ~Jackie Mason

Go away.  I’m all right.  ~Last words of H.G. Wells

I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you.  ~Unknown

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is having lots to do and not doing it.  ~John W. Raper

Don’t let it end like this.  Tell them I said something.  ~Last words of Pancho Villa

Old age means realizing you’ll never own all the dogs you wanted to.  ~Joe Gores

If I had to live my life over again, I’d make the same mistakes, only sooner.  ~Tallulah Bankhead

Sarah, I always love a good quote, or a good quote book.  Steven Wright is one of the funniest guys out there if you appreciate his dry sense of humor.  He once said "Everywhere in the world is walking distance... if you've got the time."  You've chosen some good ones to highlight here.

Sarah, The one by Tom Berger is great. Why do writers write?  Because it isn't there.

Hope you'll share more.

Old age means realizing you'll never own all the dogs you wanted to.  ~Joe Gores

My wife loved that when I read it to her.  Her health is not doing so well, so she could certainly appreciate this - we have 4 dogs and 2 puppies left - a German Shepard, a Dalmatian and a pair of Golden Retrievers with the puppies...and she knows it's not enough.

They really do bring both of us comfort...right after God...then again maybe that is Gods way of manifesting Himself to comfort us...

Now Have a Blessed day,

Sarah, glad to hear Christmas #1 went well.  I love these!  I read a story about Tallulah Bankhead many years ago and have a picture of her sitting on the potty with the door open chatting with her guests.  She definitely did not like conformity.

Maggie -  *Whew!*  Christmas #2 company will start arriving on Friday!  Busy me, but you won't catch me chatting with guests while I'm on the toilet.  Uhh ... NO.

Chris - I could have randomly thrown quotes in from all through the book and they all would have been good!  This is a great collection.

John - I hope your wife will be doing better very soon.  That quote hit home again with me shortly after I collected these.  And my kids were asking last night about our "next dog", after we lose our old one.  I don't like thinking about "after".  He's here and he's happy, and that's enough for now.

Mike - :o)  I like that one, too!  Thanks for sharing it.

Jeanean - I hear all the time that I look just like ... someone.  (I think I must be kind of generic!)  :o)

Chris - Chores are DONE.  (Until they start over again.)  Kids and Jay helped, which was fabulous.  I was set free to bake all morning, and I did!

Gayle - I need extra doses of levity all the time.  Glad you found some here.

Missy - I liked that one, too!  My Mom is here (off with the kids, I'm not currently ignoring her or anything) and she was reading some of Little One's stories.  Mom told her, "You could be a writer when you grow up."  Little One stared at her and told her very deliberately, "I AM a writer."  OH.  That's right, it's not something you have to be a certain age to do!  I threw that one in for Little One.

Neal - YEAH you are!!!   :o)

Brian - And don't forget, "I have the world's largest collection of seashells. I keep it on all the beaches of the world... perhaps you've seen it."  I also like, "If you can't hear me, it's because I'm in parentheses."

Kris - That one left me wondering if there's a book of last words.  Bet there is.

Then there is my mother, Alice Kennedy, who once said:

"If I could do it all over again there's only one thing I'd do differently - I'd only drink good wine!"

This one caught my eye:

< He's such a hick he doesn't even have a trapeze in his bedroom.>

I'd bet there's a number of 'hicks' amongst us if this is how to tell if one's a hick or not...  ;-)

Happy 1st Christmas, and Merry #2 to come!!

Sarah, these are all so good.... I love Steven Wright, anything he says us worthy of a place in this book But the one that really gets me on this list  I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you.  LOL!  ~Unknown  ..  love to know who coined that one.

Ginger - I loved that one, too!!  And I have a few people I can apply it to, unfortunately!

Ann - I'm wondering who among us might not be a hick -- but I do NOT want to know!!!!  (Merry Christmas to you, too!)

Bob - Nah, my inbox crap goes on MySpace, it only sneaked over here that one time on a dare.  :o)  Chris forgot the disclaimer: Chores = chores.  That's all.

Jason - I've realized one of the reason I love quotes -- they're great for people like me that enjoy distracting themselves.  If I need to just step away from whatever I'm doing for a minute, I can flip through a few quotes and then get back to work, refreshed.

Kay - I think that applies to most of us.  :o)

Leigh - I liked that one, too.  A blank page can be anything or everything, and sometimes that makes it nearly impossible for it to even be something.

Patricia - I think I like your Mom.  :o)
