On our recent trip in Italy, my wife and I really enjoyed Verona, a city not far from Venice with much the same architecture. But, instead of the canals, a river pretty much went around the city. We were out for a walking adventure on a September day and ended up on a hill behind the town. As we went to an observation point, it was interesting to see the little private area someone carved out for themselves among all the commotion. This is in the hub of some of the main tourist attractions in the city. In front of the green private spot you will see an ancient Roman amphitheatre that is a bustling attraction and pretty fabulous. As long as there were not a bunch of tourists, like me, looking down on your little piece of green paradise, this might be a pretty nice spot. Size-wise Verona is about like Seattle.
