There's not much to say about the gated mountain neighborhood of Bent Tree, Georgia, not already covered in greater detail on the neighborhood's own "Bent Tree website" and other web resources, except to reflect on the fact that Bent Tree isn't talked about more than it is!  Nestled in the Appalachian Foothills that form a scenic backdrop to the small community of Jasper, GA, it is a pleasant mix of old and new, resort and community.

The basic features are readily reported on a number of real estate sites:

  • 3,500+ acres of forested hills and bountiful wildlife (deer, turkey, bears, and plenty of smaller critters);
  • 1,100 +/- homes (primary residences, second homes, weekend retreats, rentals, and more), with many additional Bent Tree residential building lots still available for sale;
  • 110-acre spring-fed Lake Tamarack, stocked with trout and bass;
  • Hiking trails;
  • Elevations up to 3,200 feet above sea level, offering spectacular views;
  • 18-hole golf course;
  • 4 Outdoor / 2 Indoor tennis courts;
  • 2 Swimming pools.  (One heated / adult use only);
  • Stables and riding trails;
  • Club Tamarack clubhouse;
  • 19th Hole Restaurant;
  • Beach & Playground area, with picnic pavilion;
  • Gated entrance with 24-hour security.

However, there's more to Bent Tree than a list of its features.  There is the pleasure of nature preserved.  Of experiencing life tucked away in the woods, yet being only minutes from town and convenient shopping.  Having a wealth of activities available at your fingertips, as much as a quiet sunset on your private back deck.  Not to mention the easy going people that make up the community, and the pleasure they take in getting to know one another and sharing in this comfortable lifestyle.

I think the reason Bent Tree gets less recognition than it deserves, is perhaps due to being overshadowed by its big sister up the road, Big Canoe.  Big Canoe shares a great number of the same attributes as Bent Tree, except on a much larger / grander scale in almost every regard . . . including marketing and promotion.  And when comparing Big Canoe to Bent Tree, there are definitely features of Big Canoe worthy of notice, but . . .

It comes down to a matter of personal taste, need and budget.  Closer and more accessible to Jasper and with HOA fees roughly half that of Big Canoe, for anyone seeking a mountain escape as a place to live or vacation, Bent Tree is certainly worth a second (or first) look . . . particularly at an average sale price nearly $200,000 lower than that of Big Canoe.
