Baseball's Annual Winter Meetings Start Today in Nashville and there should be plenty of activity.... There are 2 big prizes out there...Johan Santana and Miguel Cabrera.

The Yankees appeared to be close to landing Johan Santana this weekend. But enter the RedSox latest offer....

The Yankees have told Minnesota their offer of Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and a  prospect is a take-it-or-leave-it proposition, and they want an answer by the end of the day Monday.

The Red Sox then upped the ante by agreeing to include Jacoby Ellsbury in their offer. So even though Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz apparently are not part of that package, the Sox at least have given the Twins even more to think about.

I personally think giving up Ellsbury is not a good thing and will haunt Boston for years to come....but Santana is the next Pedro Martinez.

But of course, once NY-Bos  are done with their games..they still need to sign on Santana for some big $$$$$...Stay Tuned!

As for Cabrera,it looked like he was all set to be sent to the Angels...but he is still a Marlin!

The Marlins have upped the ante on this guy...so nothing seems imminent.

This should be an interesting week with a lot of excitement in baseball!

BLR Guy---- Yeah i heard the same thing also. Andruw Jones is a gold glove center fielder but he had a terrible year at the plate. The Tigers got 3rd baseman Miguel Cabrera and Pitcher Dontrelle Willis.

BLR Guy---------- with this move the Tigers will have a potent offense. Ordonez , Cabrera, Sheffield thats pretty damn strong. But they still need help with the starting rotation, word is they are also in the Santana talks as well.

The Dodgers still havent moved a muscle and I am not happy.

I really do not understand what the Dodgers are doing...but there is still time.I think Santana is going to land in Boston....he will be reunited with Big Papi.

I don't think the Tigers would spend $150million on a pitcher now that they just landed Willis and have some other very nice pitchers...but who knows?Stay Tuned!

Jim..Williams is usually very active..so,I guess it is surprising he has been very quiet....that division is a one horse race right now...so he had better do something!

BLR Guy---------- yes there still is time but the Dodgers just are not willing to part with their young players. There is going to be alot more free agent movement as the weeks go by.

Eddy..I can't say as I blame them for wanting to keep their young players....there are many over priced ones still out there....16 million for Andruw Jones is a bit much....you could get the same defense and numbers out of Coco Crisp for 1/3 the money...now if this was AJ of old...that is different

Eddy...you got your wish...the Dodgers signed Jones for 2 years and over 36 million....not too sure that is a good move though!

Probably too much cash per...but at least they got him at a 2 year deal. ***Hoping in Chicago the Dodgers' willingness to give AJ that deal instead of trying to reel in Rowand means he's getting close to signing with the White Sox, again.**

David and BLR Guy------------ I must agree $18 million for two was way too much for a lifetime sub .300 hitter who had .220 average last year. The signing does help the outfield though because Juan Pierre is a horrible outfielder.

18 is a lot per season....but they shelled 16 to Schmidt and 14 to Furcal last year- so I guess it's not too much of a stretch.

Were I a Dodger fan....I'd be upset that my team is always lame....minus the Yanks and BoSox, no one should be spending more than the LAD, they should be a perennial NL champ- they choose not to be.

Jim..Boras wanted just a little more cash than Torii Hunter...Jones is not worth 18.1 million per after last season

Eddy...you are right about Andruw's defense....but they could have traded for Coco Crisp who only makes 5 mil per and gives excellent defense
