Daddy, What's That? It's Huge - Speechless Sundays
When we visited the La Brea Tar Pits, my little one was fascinated by the mastadon/Wooly Mammoth. He was trying to decide what it was and wanted a better look at the big dinosaur with the big tusks.
Then he wanted Daddy to explain exactly what it was.
We visited the La Brea Tar Pits soooooo many times with my daughter when she was little , she loved it there:) Sometimes we went inside, but most of the times we just were walking around, rolling in grass( the place hill with luscious grass:), made a lot of pictures......sometimes moved to LACMA~~ kids have a free access in there. Memories:)

Christine - impressive, but so weired. What can you do with this weird ivory? Kids may love them
Inna - My boys started rolling down the hill once I mentioned that my sister and I used to do it when we were little. They loved it as did we.

Jon - It's amazing and I suppose a little weird. I don't think it's actually ivory. They said they found pieces of tusk, but though the bones are real, I believe the tusks are a re-creation.

Oh my, it is huge. I haven't been there in many years and it looks very interesting. I might have to go there and take a peek. Great woolly mammoth.
Gorgeous photo - I've never been to the tar pits. I can't get over how huge the mammoth is!
The kids do not reaize that they are being educated when they goto see this stuff. More parents should take an active roll like you are doing to give their kids that early push.

I haven't been to the La Brea Tar Pits in years and years. I remember thinking how amazing it was that this special place was in the middle of the city. It was hard to imagine all the buildings gone, and those enormous creatures wandering around in primordial times.
I'm guessing that your son was pretty impressed with that mammoth, heck I am. It's always fun watching the excitement that kids get when experiencing new things, their imaginations can run wild.
