Property Taxes

With property values falling nationwide why are our property taxes at the same level or even higher. The National Taxpayers Union estimates that 60% of homes in the U.S. are overassessed. For years our local government has benefited from increased revenue due to property appreciation. Often local property tax laws are confusing to most homeowners, we have developed a site, www.LowTaxRate.com to help taxpayers better understand their assessment and offer tips to dispute.

If for example I made $100,000 last year I would be expected to pay a higher tax than if I made $50,000. The same holds true with your property tax, if your home's market value dropped $50,000 you would be expected to pay a lesser amount. This is true if you as the taxpayer stands up and points this out to your local assessors office. Remember the assessor works for your local government and needs to continue to grow the tax revenue for the municipality.

The true problem I feel is with each community allowed to create its own (often confusing) tax laws and ways to assess we need some unifomity and more effeciencey in which our local government spends our tax dollars.
