Back in June of 2007, when I first joined Active Rain, I posted an article I'd written some time back titled

"Is it the Flu or Carbon Monoxide"

based on research I had done when I had time to do such things.

A few minutes ago, while flitting around one of the inspector message boards, I responded to a light hearted post about funny things said one of which was "paranormal home inspections.

Surprisingly, there are people who advertise as paranormal home inspectors and have written self published books on it. Anyway that isn't what this blog is about. Just some background on how I got inspired to write this blog.

Comes this interesting information.

"Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include listlessness, depression, dementia, emotional disturbances, and hallucinations. Many of the phenomena generally associated with haunted houses, including strange visions and sounds, feelings of dread, illness, and the sudden, apparently inexplicable death of all the occupants, can be attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning." I thought, Huh!

But the everpresent Google brings us these search results when searching for "carbon monoxide and house hauntings"

After reviewing several of those Google search results, I think it is at least a possibility.

If you know someone living in a haunted house, help them out and make them aware of the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.

It may just be a haunted house.

You may just save their life, if it's carbon monoxide poisoning.

A simple carbon monoxide detector can help with this.

BOO!!!!!

(Everyone should have CO detectors in their homes. So inexepenive for the security of not dying!)

Here in Massachusetts along with the smoke detectors you need to have carbon monoxide detector/s installed and working before the fire inspector can give you the smoke certificate for the closing.

Wow! I've had all those symptoms! (listlessness, depression, dementia, emotional disturbances, and hallucinations) Just kidding....it's only the side effects of holiday slow down in real estate. LOL Great information!!!!

Hi Erby,
Guess my CO detector is not work---I am listless, emotional, depressed but then again like Lizette maybe it's the market. :0-)

The holiday slowdown is NOT a time for being listless, emotionally depressed, etc.

It's a time to sit back and relax a little from the stresses of the year, renew your strength for next year, and a great chance to get out and do some marketing for next year.

Relax, enjoy life. Build strength for next year.

AND get a working carbon monoxide detector to remove those haunted spirits from your house!

Remember, the slowdown also gives you more time to learn and share here on Active Rain. PIck up some new marketing ideas for next year!

Erby - I am with Cynthia and Lizette on this one. There must be a lot of carbon monoxide detectors not working in this country:). This is funny post on a serious topic.

Erby, Great post on Carbon Monoxide.

Everyone should read the manufacturer instructions and know how long a CO detector is to last. Write on the front of it the REPLACE DATE so that you will not forget it. Most are only good 5-7 years. Newer models may exceed that but better be sure.

Rick: NFPA says five years for Carbon Monoxide Detectors. They're cheap. Best to get new ones and not worry about it.

Hi Erby - Well, I had no clue the 2 were connected! I really don't want to be in a Haunted house or one filled with carbon monoxide !! Sadly, an entire family was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning just last week in Aspen Colorado, while on vacation - good advice, I hope everyone tells everyone about this!
