Kate Dodge, Chairman of the Board of the Omaha Food Bank, helped kick off the Shine the Light on Hunger campaign on Saturday, December 1st at the ConAgra ice skating rink on the ConAgra campus downtown.  Mayor Mike Fahey and representatives from the Omaha Food Bank and ConAgra were at the event.  The campaign will provide an opportunity for the community to give back to those in need.

Starting December 1st through December 16th, open ice skating is available at the ConAgra Foods ice rink located off of 10th street on the downtown campus.  The public is encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items and household goods to drop into collection bins, which will be distributed to families in need by The Food Bank.  Admission is $5 for skating and includes skate rental.  The rink is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight.

In addition to the ice-skating rink, there will be other opportunities throughout the Holiday Lights Festival to support The Shine the Light on Hunger campaign. For example, canned goods and cash donations will be accepted at participating arts and cultural institutions at the Wells Fargo Family Festival on Sunday, December 16. Donations will also be accepted at Wells Fargo bank branches November 26 December 16 and at the Christmas with the Symphony concert at the Holland Performing Arts Center December 14 16.

In addition to ConAgra Foods and the communitys contributions, five percent of all sponsorship dollars collected to support the Holiday Lights Festival will be donated to The Food Bank.
