It has always been said that it is the little things in life. It's not a day we remember when we think back fondly on something; it is a moment in time. A kind gesture by someone, a hearty laugh, a hug at the end of a day. Many of us wake up with the thoughts and conviction to make this a beautiful day for ourselves. Some of us "pre-plan" our days ahead of time to help ensure things will go well and have the best outcomes every day. Some of us just count our blessings when our feet hit the floor in the morning that we have been granted another beautiful day.
As I have been going through the past year to send cards out to my clients, I go through my calendar. There are some I have not heard from and some that I hear from frequently but what struck me the most was that each and every one of them made me smile and think of a MOMENT. Because I "study" homes through what we call "Feng Shui Eyes" (to be discussed in another post) it is not at all uncommon for me to remember that home vividly. And oftentimes a specific moment during the consultation with a client; it could have been an "a-HA" moment where they understood what I was saying and everything fell into place for them. It might have been a moment where I somehow struck a nerve with a skeptic who had been forced to sit through the consultation by a spouse; it could have just been a heartfelt hug at the end of the session and the deep connection we have already established.

At Thanksgiving I sat down to eat and at that moment I did not think about the work involved. I could only think how very blessed I was to have my family around me. Suddenly it didn't seem very important if everything was hot at the same time (I never get that down) or if the turkey was perfect--it didn't matter. I was graced to have my mother for yet another year.
In Paris this year while it was all wonderful, it was the moments there as well; I was struggling to choose one picture from the incredible artists in Monmarte and finally made a decision. When I went back to the particular artist that I had chosen she did not speak English but I told her that I absolutely loved the piece I had chosen and I believe she saw that. She wrapped it for me carefully and rubbed her hand on my cheek with eyes that told me she knew I loved her work and she felt honored. A moment that transcended time and a language barrier.
How many of us are rushing through to get so many things done because we have set goals for ourselves and things we "must" accomplish that we are missing these precious moments? While we may enjoy our day in general, these simple "moments" are what make up our lives.

I try to be generous with my "moments." I will hold a door, let someone ahead of me on line, give someone a smile or speak to a stranger. I will try to encourage someone through a situation they are facing, offer some praise on something they've accomplished or give them a compliment on just about anything. For some of us, it doesn't take much at all to make our day....that small compliment might just be that persons "moment." Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all slow down a bit from all the work and give someone something more important then a store bought item? IT ONLY TAKES A MOMENT TO CREATE A MOMENT. Amazing, isn't it?
