The V Foundation - more than a basketball tournament

If you can watch Jimmy Valvano deliver his famous speech without crying -- call me because I want to give you a heart.

At any point, the V Foundation has raised more than $70 million for cancer research.  In part of that infamous speech, Jimmy V mentions that he may not be helped, but maybe a child or someone in your family will benefit from your fund raising efforts.   What irony -- his daughter is a breast cancer survivor because of the research from the JimmyV Foundation

I saw the story on Jimmy V's daughter on ESPN this afternoon.  I agree, this is much more than a basketball game.  Thanks for reminding us about what is important, and the good things about sports in our society!

Sports is about the only thing I don't watch much, especially basket ball. My kids played football and were all too short to be of use on the court.  Sounds like a great cause and a great person.

Now that is ironic, that Jimmy's daughter is doing so well.  Nice post - I hope someone discovers this great cause through you, and makes a donation they might not have considered doing so before.

Tony & Darcy -- there has been a big reminder in our area w/the death of football player Sean Taylor.

Chris - one of my fave shows is The Big Idea, I have watched that over sports.

Margaret - funny how life works sometimes

BLR Guy - I still remember that look on Olajawon face when NC State won the tourney and Jimmy V was running around the court looking to hug someone.
