One of the great things about living on Maui is that when you leave the island for a vacation, you get to come back home...to Maui!
I recently returned home to the island after spending the Thanksgiving holiday in California with my family. I must first say that it was a very nice visit and I thoroughly enjoyed spending the holiday with loved ones, but boy, was it great to return back to where it was warm! It's not like we went snow skiing up in Tahoe. We just stayed in the bay area where the day temperature is a balmy 60 degrees with a late evening/early morning temp of the mid-30's. That's COLD!!! There is something about waking up in the morning comfortably barefoot and feeling the warm tropical breezes through an open window, year round, that has me extremely spoiled.
I was even looking forward to some cooler weather on my trip as I dug out my sweaters, socks, and winter shoes from the depths of my closet. And it was nice, initially, to breath in the crisp, cool air, but the cold soon became intolerable as the evening temperatures started to dip, making any activity that required leaving the comforts of a heated home very painful. Makes me wonder how I lived in Colorado for the 4 years I wa
s there...
But oh, to be back on Maui where I can walk outside my house in shorts (and barefoot) at any time of the day during any part of the year is a simple pleasure that I could not part well with. But it's not always warm and sunny here. We do experience change in the weather. Right now it's raining and the Kona winds are blowing pretty hard, which is the extent of our winters. The rain is actually pretty rare (at least in Kihei) so it is mostly warm and sunny. Okay, I'll stop rubbing it in...
