Downtown Alton is your typical small New Hampshire town. You will find the Town Hall, Gilman Library, banks, doctors, cemeteries, REALTORS offices, a dance studio, hair salon, Curves gym for women, and shops.

Alton Central School serves approximately 620 children in Kindergarten through 8^th grade.  ACS offers students the ability to participate in 5 sports as well as Destination Imagination, Mock Trial, Lego Competition, National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Drama Club and a variety of other extracurricular activities.  Prospect Mountain High School is the home of the Timberwolves serves both Alton, NH and Barnstead, NH.
