Wild weather wreaked havoc across most of the Pacific Northwest this past weekend, starting with some 'heavier-than-usual snowfall that accumulated over Saturday and Sunday.

As quickly as the snowing subsided, the 'Noahic' proportions of rain began.

This Jeep Liberty was swallowed up by a large sinkhole, the results of this past week's record-breaking rainfall that dumped over 12" in a 24 hour period here on the Kitsap Peninsula in wet Washington State.

Dozens of Kitsap County roads were closed, causing huge traveling headaches for area drivers.

Schools throughout Central Kitsap were shut down on Tuesday. Brownsville Elementary remained closed today due to several blocked access roads, including Brownsville Highway near Gluds Pond, and Illahee Road (near Varsity).

Our local newspaper, the Kitsap Sun, has provided an excellent resource map to identify all current road closures. To access their map, go HERE.

There is also an update list of local road closures, along with some estimated timeframes for repair, HERE as well.

In the picture to the right, Brownsville Elementary teacher, Philip Weatherby, assesses the damage to Illahee Road along with his two children.

A State of Emergency was declared in both Washington and Oregon, allowing local counties and cities to respond more effectively to the storm relief efforts.

Holy cow!  That is crazy.  I don't think we have ever had a sinkhole out here.  Not even during "El Nino" as far as I am aware.  I can't believe it can take an entire car like that!

Mother Nature can sure be nasty. We've had our share of nasty rain here in NH the last couple of years. Just Awful...

Wow.  We got a lot of rain as well, but our county is used to it and seems "built for rain."

Reminds me of LA, from time to time due to later winter and spring storms. Still the links to the maps and road closures is a nice thing to provide. Hope this doesn't make things harder for your market.
