The Greater Malibu Disaster Recovery Project, more commonly known as "Gumdrop," has been reactivated to aid victims of the recent fires through the process of rebuilding their lives. The agency, which will have office space at City Hall, will offer assistance areas not covered by FEMA or Los Angeles County.
Tax-deductible cash donations will also be accepted to help fund the work of the 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which was formed after the 1993 Malibu fires and subsequent flooding. Those impacted by the Canyon and Corral Fires will be able to find answers that they might not otherwise access through insurance and/or the other, more conventional aid organizations.
GMDRP services include financial and psychological aid to all those affected, regardless of whether their homes were within the City limits or located in unincorporated Los Angeles County areas. GMDRP will carefully monitor and evaluate all requests for aid. To make a donation, register for assistance or receive further information, GMDRP can be contacted as follows: Greater Malibu Disaster Recovery Project PO Box 6321 Malibu, CA 90264-6321 Phone (310) 456-2489 ext. 301 Fax: (310) 456-3356 Email: gmdrp@ci.malibu.ca.us
