Creating Creativity to Increase Your Success!!!

Throughout our hectic and busy lives we have many thoughts and ideas that pop into our heads.  You are an information source for other people much like a computer is.  We all have valuable knowledge that we need to share with others.  How do you tap into it?

Think about how many conversations and signs and just general information is thrown at you throughout your day.  For most of this, you have your filter in high gear, meaning if the stuff you are hearing is not of interest to you or does not concern you, it remains low on the radar screen.  There are new great ideas formed every minute of every day; they are just passed off and ignored most of the time.

So how do we harness our thoughts and ideas and turn them into something beneficial?  This is the question you should be asking yourself.

Start to pay more attention to your surroundings.  Think of it this way, have you ever bought something and started to notice how many people have the same thing?  I remember a few years back, I bought a Silver Dodge Ram pick-up truck, as I drove it off the lot and made my way to the highway and then eventually back to my house, I started noticing how many of these same trucks were on the road.  I thought to myself, "I don't remember ever seeing this many Dodge Ram's on the road."

What actually happened was that I simply took my blinders off and became aware of these similar trucks because I now had a vested interest in them.  The same is true for just about everything that we encounter in life.  We have are blinders on until we are in some way impacted personally.

Most of us go through life with a set routine.  We wake up, go to work, go home and go to bed.  On weekends, perhaps we go out to eat at the same few restaurants, perhaps engage in watching some TV, or doing yard work, or cleaning the house.  The point is, by having the schedules that we do, we are not allowing ourselves the opportunity to be creative.

My proposal is simple.  Wake up earlier; try driving a few different ways to work maybe listening to a different radio station or try eating at a new restaurant.  Why you ask?  Simple.  By changing your routine, it allows you to bring in new stimulus into your life.

Curt,

You are so right about this. It brings to mind, years ago, I got a job with a Transportation Company. I did not even know what a pallet was. Through my 13 years there, I learned all about 18wheelers, damages, customer service, etc. Of course, now an 18 wheeler can't pass me by without me knowing the company, possibly the driver and a whole slew of things. I never noticed them before!  Thanks for this post, we all need to experience new things.

Thanks Karen, it's amazing how that happens.  A number of years ago, I could almost drive to work while sleeping..it would be one of those scenarios that when you get to where you are going you have no recollection of how you got there.  So I started changing my driving routes and I  found myself paying close attention to all the detail around me since I was "not familiar" with those routes.  I learned a great deal about what was in the area that way.

Paying attention stimulates creativity and then you need to jot down a note before you forget.

Wayne, You are so right about that.  I think we all get so caught up in our lives and what is going to happen or what just happened that we forget to live in the moment.  I used to be the king of not writing anything down and thinking "I'll remember that"....but I would never remember.

Hi Curt, Great blog.  I don't have a set routine so I'm a little different. Maybe that's what makes me creative.

Kay,  You hit the nail on the head I think.  So many of us are creatures of habit and don't want to disrupt our routines that we are hurting our own creativity.  Thanks!

I absolutely agree.  The same old routine everyday becomes mind-numbingly boring.  Not only that, but your blog reminded me "keep doing what you've always done & you'll keep getting what you've always gotten".  You have to change things around every so often in order to grow both personally and professionally.

You are so right as I often drive on auto-pilot to work and home.  It's actually scary because you could so easily become a target.  Our profession can be dangerous so I will try to vary my route.  Thx

Meghan, Thank you very much for the feedback!  It's like the definition of Insanity, "To keep doing the same thing and expect a different result."
