It's disturbing to hear the biggest rising clientele for anti depressants is children, let that be children who are in Preschool. This is sad, shocking and should be a huge wake up call to everyone. It should also make us wonder, do we give up to easily to help one another or are we just looking for a fast solution? Which time and time proves it creates more problems. Children by nature are "pure" energy in the sense of not really being exposed or cluttered to the nonsense and challenges of the world, yet. By teaching and providing our children with a solid foundation and supportive environment to begin building their core personalities will allow them to become strong willed individuals.

So, what is being said when we hear Preschoolers are being prescribed anti depressants? There could be so many factors contributing to this trend being passed on by doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Yes, in some cases it is necessary to have an extra helping hand but at Preschool? Situations that could be contributing to children feeling more depressed may come from their physical, emotional and social surroundings in locations such as school and/or home.
Yes, we are all working non-stop and that is because it's the requirement of our American society and culture. So in order to survive you do what you can, very understandable. But, what If you did not have to "work like a dog" such as in Australia for example. Mood swings, stress, anxiety and depression are all extremely low. Aussies put in their eight hours a day of work and know when to balance that with play. Interestingly enough, Feng Shui is widespread and very much part of their lifestyle down under.
Here some Feng Shui Tips to help Let go of Depression for Children and Adults
- Yes, Laura Cerrano Feng Shui consultant repeats this a lot but it's true! Declutter your home, letting go of items you do not use, need or love. There reason goes deeper than just to have an organized house which does help. Objects in Feng Shui carry energy, just as your home and land has a soul. Those objects that do not carry a positive energy can create pockets of negative energy and depending on where they are placed in accord to the layout of your home can have even more of a negative impact.
- Treat you self and your family to a Feng Shui Consultation. March is right around the corner, which means Spring is not to far behind. This will be the perfect time to assess your home/land and enhance the energy with simple and practical Feng Shui changes. A house blessing to clear out any negative stagnant energy is a must and should always be included with your Full Feng Shui Consultation.
- Allowing the outside in, reconnecting with nature is huge! How many times have you heard friends or family say they do outside activities to de-stress and relax. When people vacation, they usually end up traveling to the mountains or beaches because of the atmosphere that is offered, it's a healing, calm and fun feeling. Bring that concept into your home and surrounding land. Think about what makes you smile or feel relaxed when you explore the outdoors. Is it the beach, forest, mountain, desert, flowers and gardens, the ocean...it will be catered to you. You can represent those idea with artwork, statues, the style of furniture, rugs, decorations, photos and colors displays around your home.
- Buy fresh flowers and/or lush green plants to help enhance the energy. Plants in Feng Shui are a natural life force and have been proven to enhance memory, communication and overall happiness. For children and adults, growing a plant is such a wonderful teaching and healing tool and is highly recommended.
- Outside your home, think of the same. Do you enjoy having butterfly bushes around your home because they call to butterfly's and other exotic birds. How about adding flowers or solar lights leading up to your front entrance to nicely greet you, guests and the energy. What about a fountain in the backyard located in the wealth corner to enhance prosperity but also peacefulness with the soothing sounds of the gentle flowing fountain. Some clients enjoy creating a garden, which is excellent! So many ideas, it's really what suits you.
- Do not be afraid to add color in your home, children love color. Color therapy is nothing new and a huge principle in Feng Shui. Be sure to add touches of bright colors if you find your home is more coated in the dark tones. Think balance, dark needs light and light needs dark. Spring is the season to break out! Feng Shui recommended colors to improve your mood, yellows, oranges, light blues, peach, pink, light beige's and earth tones. Open your windows and blinds as well to filter in daytime light and close them in the evening as to capture that energy.
- Exercises to balance your endorphin's and boost your mood. You do not have to be a "gym rat" but workingout or doing some kind of moderate exercises proves to improve your emotions, self esteem and overall you are treating your body right. Look into Yoga (meditation), Kung-Fu, exercise classes that promotes being in a group to help you meet new people Make sure your children play outside, use their imagination. Everyone take a break from any kind of technology that requires you staring at the screen.
- With good exercises comes proper nutrition, you can not have one with out the other. Eat fresh fruits and veggies, try and cut back on heavy meats, think lean if that is what you prefer more. Even try a cleansing of your body but talk to an expert before proceeding. Find one that is safe and works for you, very important.
- Meditation is very important to helping you heal spiritually, it purifies the mind and restores your spirit. Chinese medicine says being angry and/or depressed reduces your life energy. Negative emotions can truly impact your well-being and longevity. Find the style of meditation that best suits your needs and that you feel comfortable with. The Chinese believe Tai Chi is the best way to literally replenish your life energy that has been lost during stressful times in your life.
