Did you know that studies show 22% of Latinos have a "thin" credit file, or no credit history, compared to only
4% for Caucasians? Or that 35% of Latino families do not have a basic checking or savings account?
Underwriting these files is a manual process, which obviously requires time and resources by lenders, so do loan
officers shy away from originating these loans? Or, because of the difficulty verifying income or assets, is this
group of borrowers steered down the path of low doc or sub-prime mortgage products? The question is open to
debate, but some studies show that yes, this may indeed be the case.
