The Power Of Links!

I know that Meta tags and Keywords are important for SEO. One thing that I did not realize until recently is the power of links. Someone told me in response to one of my posts that Google.com loves deep links. I have found this to be true for just about every search engine out there.

Before I was even on my companies website just the mention of my name in a search engine brought up my companies website. I linked http://www.lakecitymtg.com/ to so many sites, blogs, and forum posts that it began receiving better ranking than it had previously without making any modifications to the site itself. That got me thinking.

I realized that the more sites that I link together in my network of links the better search engine optimized each linked site becomes. By linking pages that are deep within my own pages or blogs to other busy websites and blogs the better my own personal SEO becomes.

As an example I am on http://inandaroundthepark.ning.com/profile/cohlsen which I have linked to www.blogger.com/cohlsen which is linked to www.activerain.com/cohlsen which is linked to http://www.lakecitymtg.net/ which is linked to http://www.lakecitymtg.net/ which is linked to http://www.mortgageny.net/ which is linked to www.mortgageny.net/homes which is also linked to www.activerain.com/cohlsen. http://www.mortgageny.net/cohlsen is linked to AR and http://www.lender411.com/article-center/article98.html is linked to http://www.mortgageny.net/. http://www.mortgageloan.com/Mortgage/New_York/Plattsburgh/ is linked to http://www.lakecitymtg.com/. The chain goes on and on and on.

I won't list every single link that I have linking back, I'm sure that you get the idea. And Voila just type my name or specified search terms into any search engine and I pop up all over the place. I know that Meta Tags and keywords are imprtant but I think that name word association is just as important.

A friend of mine was searching the web the other day and says that he found my name in www.wikipedia.com with my name and picture under the definition of homes loans. I have not seen it myself but given the nature of the way that wikipedia crawls local content and extracts meanings and definitions from common usages it certainly is possible.

There are many other ways to optimize yourself and your services for online search. I am studying relentlessly trying to figure them out. Some I understand quite well and others I do not. I will continue to study and I will let you all know what I find out but in the meantime this is one very simple way for you to promote yourself, your products, and your services on the internet.

I've heard the question many times; "does blogging on AR really bring in business?". The answer quite simply is a resounding YES!! If it is done properly. AR is great but there are a ton of other great social networking sites out there as well like http://zolve.com/member/cohlsen and http://www.wannanetwork.com/Cohlsen. I recomend them all! So if you haven't already ...get busy linking and I'll SEE you around the net!

Your welcome. I saw someone else write a post about this much better than this post after I wrote this one. It is true though that you can optimize the heck out of a site without even doing anything to that particular site by creating a vast network of links for the search engines to crawl.

Thanks so much for the practical advice.  I just created my own website, and I have been at a loss trying to come up with ways to drive traffic to my site in an inexpensive way.  I will try this (if I can figure it out) and see how it works for me.

Julie - Your welcome. This is working great for me ...including my property websites I have over 60 websites set up in a cross linked network and several blogs and real estate social networks linked across a network. I have been able to drive traffic to the sites completely free. The only expense that I incur is the cost of operating and maintaining the sites. Of course many of them are free as well such as my blogger blog; www.adirondackms.blogspot.com. I hope this information helps you get some free traffic to your site ...come back and let me know how it works out for you. Best wishes!
