I haven't been commenting much, I have been such a busy bee.  Just like the title states We adopted a platoon.

We were told don't worry about all 95, just do what you can.

We wanted to take care of them all....the best way we can.  Just like parents we do what we do and we do what we can.

We didn't spend a lot of money....We decided to send them a few pieces of home.  A reminder to them "There is no place like home!"

95 Holiday Cards, 95 candy canes that is all they asked.  I had to take it one step further..if it were my son...I would want someone to do it for him!

I am still shopping and will ship it out on Saturday...any military personnel out there? What would you think a servicemen and women would appreciate?  Community Members help me and remember there is 95 of them!   Let's see if your suggestions make the cut.

I am off to finish the cards... Tomorrow finish shopping...Any ideas?????

When ever I sent care-packages to my husband I would send a ton of gum - all the guys loved getting the gum :) Thanks for helping out!! Sometimes it is great that those deployed get things from citizens! It means a lot to them. My husband has letters and cards from people he will never meet.  Thanks again!

I had heard the soldiers need sunscreen and baby wipes.

I would send silly, but cute stuff with holiday themes, too.  No winter or santa hats where they are.

This is a great idea, Midori! I'm thinking if they each get a card and candy cane, how about a few of the latest DVDs that they can watch together?

GREAT post but, more importantly, this is a fantastic thing that you are doing.  I've heard about the baby wipes and sunscreen also.  Some of the drug stores have the sunscreen discounted since the vacation season is fading!  Your patriotic efforts are much appreciated!

Great job, Midori! Years ago...OK, 27 years ago I was deployed overseas on a ship at Xmas. I still remember my "care" package from my future wife...not anything special candy, goodies, homemade ornaments for my small tree. It is the thought that is important and you have that covered!

Mints and breath fresheners were a big hit with "my squad" when my son was in Iraq.  When they are off base in unfriendly territory brushing their teeth is low on the priority list--so popping a mint or a piece of gum is the next best thing.  Chewing gum is also a great stress reliever--and boy, they could use some help with that!   You're doing a good thing--thanks!

Hello Midori,

What a great idea, at the holidays we get so busy and its easy to forget our service men & women that are fighting for our country. God Bless you and may you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.

Personally experiencing being in combat and under intense amount of stress, thousands of miles away from home, we always feel grateful when a little piece of home unexpectedly drops in your lap, and remind us what were fighting for.

P.S.: Guys, she's here getting everything ready, look for her next post to reveal what we bought...
