If you're not up on children's literature, Flat Stanley is required reading in most elementary schools. It's about a boy, Stanley, who is flattened and mailed on various adventures. My 6th grade nephew's class read the book, so a kraft paper Ryan arrived in my mailbox this week. I am to provide the finale of his whirlwind postal tour.
Sounds like fun and easy enough, right? I simply have to show Ryan a good time. Since he's from Kansas City a trip to the beach is expected. I've decided to give him the same tour I give my out of town buyers. It's the Palos Verdes Peninsula you may miss if you're not careful. No Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm. No Hollywood or Beverly Hills.
Buckle up Ryan, we're off to drive around the Palos Verdes Peninsula. As we head down Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes, first stop: Trump National Golf Course Clubhouse and a cup of coffee (sorry Ryan, it'll be hot chocolate for you) but first let's peek over the cliff at the private Portuguese Bend Beach Clubwith palapa picnic tables and fire pits for chilly evening beach events. Enjoy the stunning architecture and the sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island before we continue on to the Wayfarer's Chapel, the glass chapel, and site of more than one celebrity wedding. Again, it's all about the architecture and the views.
Next stop: Lowes new resort, Terranea. Construction is underway and from all reports it will offer spectacular views, world class cuisine and luxury lodging. Yes, that's a lighthouse and a great place to whale-watch. Moving on, Ryan we are on our way to RAT Beach for a quick stop, but you'll have to enjoy the waves from afar (you're paper, remember?).
Ryan, what did you say? You'd like to live In Palos Verdes. Great, that's what I was hoping you would say. I'm sure you'll be able to buy a home in a few years when you make it big as a NASCAR driver!
