Why is it that the term "buyer's market" has such a negative connotation?

To me, if I were in the market to buy a home, I would jump at the chance to buy a home right now, especially in Atlanta, Georgia.

It's a good time to buy in general right now, according to National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) President Richard Gaylord. Real estate is traditionally an excellent long-term investment and is still the number one way that families in the United States invest, according to Gaylord. For a video clip of his recent television interview discussing why real estate is a long-term investment, the problems facing the market today and why now is a good time to buy, please click here.

According to a Yahoo! Real Estate article by Paul Kaihla, "Ten Cities Ready to Bounce Back," Atlanta is one of 10 cities that is "bucking the national housing trend." The Atlanta area enjoys one of the highest rates of job growth, access to an international transportation hub and the presence of numerous Fortune 500 companies, so it is only natural that, as companies continue to relocate here and bring in more and more employees, Atlanta's growth will remain steady.

welcome homeIn addition, the Atlanta housing market did not experience the unrealistic, disproportionate appreciation that other cities across the country saw in 2005 and 2006, and therefore, did not see the corresponding dramatic declines of 2007. We've continued to have the steady, healthy growth we have always enjoyed. And while the market has seemed to "soften" a bit, the realistic view of things it that it has calmed in response to the markets in other parts of the country.

We are affected by other markets, of course - when an employee is transferred into Atlanta but is unable to sell his home in another state, he is unable to buy here; thus, our inventory increases and we become a "Buyers' Market." However, our rate of growth is positive and consistent enough that, as the rest of the country begins to turn around, our market will already be on that up-swing.

So calling all prospective buyers out there: It's a great time to buy in Atlanta! If you'd like more information about buying a home in the Atlanta area, call The Gebhardt Group today. We'd love to talk to you about the home-buying process and help you find the perfect home!

Aloha Maura!  That was so well written you have me considering buying a home in Atlanta!  It is such a great buyers market right now because of interest rates being so low too.  How are the rates in Atlanta?  I had a buyer lock for 5.5% on a 30 year VA fixed with 0 points last week!  If the combination or prices, inventory and interest rates dont scream 'BUYERS MARKET" I dont know what does.  Have a good week.

Hello, David! Thanks for reading and for the compliment - we'd love to have you in Atlanta! (Although, I'm sure you wouldn't leave the paradise of Hawaii for our land-locked city!)

What a great deal your buyer locked in on - I wish all of our buyers could see the value in buying now!
