Who Enforces THE OATH...Fran's Friday Forum...???

Fran... great article!  I am not so sure that the majority of Fed employees, at all levels, even KNOW there is an OATH, let alone the words to it.  Dilemma? HECK YES there is one!!

Fran; I don't think ANYONE in the government gives a hoot about the oath.

Fran, Very good questions indeed! I will pray as always. I too heard Ron Paul's comments concerning abortion and he's right, it's a moral issue that should never have gotten to the Supreme Court. It's the same old same old. How did we obliterate a whole culture here in the US? How did we ignore our own bill of rights to allow slavery for so long? How did the Nazi's extinguish 6 million Jews? It's the same old song as how we've killed over 50 million future tax paying babies! They were dehumanized or made less than human in the general population's eyes. My question would be how many that have taken the oath do you think really upheld it to the letter of the law. I would bet the number would be extremely small. There is accountabilty but the process is too arduous, it's called impeachement. As for Life, wearing this band everyday reminds me to pray for the end of the bloodshed in America.

Great post, it reminds me that there are simple solutions to these problems.  Now if we can only teach our elected officials how to read.

The folks that framed the constitution did us a great service and maybe a disservice at the same time. They made the document in some areas very broad and open to interpretation. This of course along with the power to amend makes the document a great living thing. On the other hand it may lead, and has in some case led to interpretations that stretch the meaning of the document. Now if you are going to stretch past the meaning of the document then the way to do it is thru amendment. A perfect example is the ending of slavery. So while you and I may not always agree, when it comes to the constitution I am with you on this. Lets fight all the special interests and maybe we should end the document as we start it with "we the people..."

Fran:  The 24 Catholic Senators are in the Senate to vote for what they think is right... and NOT to follow the wishes, or even dictates of the newly-crowned Cardinal Dolan, or even the Pope.

As far as using a "properly formed" conscience... whose definition of what is "properly formed" should be used by these Senators?  Yours?  I think not.  Mine?  I also think not. 

In all cases, it should be up to the person making the choice in front of them.  Just because you happen to disagree with someone... me, or anyone... does not mean that my, or their conscience is not "properly formed."

Fran:  You make some good points, but what is still an issue... is what "smell" smells good, to whom, and why.  And also, exactly who wrote the cookbook, and how many times it has been re-written, re-interpreted, mis-interpreted, or outright changed.

Unfortunately, that "cookbook"... over the years... has become more of a political document than it should be.

Who gets to JUDGE whether these politicians you alude to ARE passing the "smell" test?  Not you, nor me, nor nor Cafrdinal Dolan, nor the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger... now Pope.

Yes... Christ founded His church... and then mankind got ahold of it, and molded it to their own personal leanings and political needs.  We see it happening more and more every day.

By the way... the forming of my own conscience was done with the help of the Ursuline Sisters, the Akron Dominical Sisters, The Marianists, and the Jesuits.  That is a combination that I am sure... should pass just about anyone's "smell test."

Fran... I give them all the credit in the world.  I received an excellent education, and a very well-formed, and well-informed, thinking-woman's conscience.
