Craig SchillerWhat a great day I had, today! I was invited to attend a round table discussion with some of the leading Home Stagers.

Lori Kim Polk, the facilitator of the round table discussion of Home Stagers included me, which was a thrill. I so enjoyed getting to meet Lori in person and the other top notch Home Stagers. For those that don't know, Lori is right here on Active Rain with the Artful Jouney Designs and Staging.

The event took place in Roseville at a wonderful furniture warehouse called Welcome Home and Lori's daughter decorated and provided a lovely lunch for all that attended.

To add to my delight was a man I have blogged with since August of 2006, Craig Schiller of Stage it Forward.

When I walked in, Craig and I knew each other right away and it was just like old home week.

As you know, we always feel that we know each other since we blog but there is nothing better than that personal touchy feely look. Craig is a charming man and quite the entrepreneur of Home Staging. Since Home Staging being relatively new in the area of Real Estate, Craig helps to bring a sense of cohesiveness and well thought out plans for Home Stagers as a group. Craig flew in from Chicago with questions posed from other Home Stagers throughout the U.S. to share with the group attending today.

The Home Stagers are an eager group that have had experience staging from small vignettes to full 9,000 square foot home staging. There is certainly a difference between a professional stager who provides this service on a full time basis just like the difference between the full time experienced Realtor and the part-time new agent.

I'm delighted to have met such a great group of professionals and of course will always be enamored with my dear friend, Craig.

I do so love these Active Rain get-togethers! Thank you Lori for the invite.

Here's a little video of the group and I must say that if you are a Realtor who has a listing, and wants to sell...home staging is the way to pump up your odds of selling at a higher dollar amount. But, who doesn't know that already!

Be sure to read the official article on the Round Table Discussion for Northern California Home Stagers by Lori Kim Polk.

Great show, Gena. It was nice to see Craig. I have all my vacant homes staged in Ann Arbor, too many vacant ones that must have it to sell.

Because of the vision and efforts of Craig and several other AR stagers, agents are becoming more and more aware of the role staging can play in marketing a home. Thanks for sharing your day, Gena!

Gena - sounds like a fun time. What a neat group to get together with. Must have been fun to meet Craig, too. I have followed his writing since I joined so many months ago.

Gena ~ Thanks for sharing the RES with us -- how fun to see the RoundTable with Lori, Craig, and all of the other stagers!  And it's especially gratifying to hear the agents' comments here that staging is necessary in today's market.  Hopefully, more will jump on this marketing bandwagon!

Wow Gena, this was totally great and glad you shared this. Home staging seems to be making a huge difference in the way Buyers respond and it is perhaps responsible for a lot more of the sales than most really appreciated. Thankfully we AR to get the word out and provide the empirical evidence for consumers to benefit for this vital new service.

What a treat!  I will be attending my first round table in January, and I can't wait to meet my fellow MN stagers.

Hi Gena,  Great post and thank you for giving us stagers your backing!  This is a very exciting time for us.  We had the Los Angeles Round Table meeting yesterday too, organized by Michelle Minch and her assistants, lunch by Brook Furniture Rental.  We all had a great time!  It was very good to hear all about stagers, the discussions and to meet them.  One of our topics, and one of the most important ones, is informing the realtor and the homeowner about home staging and the benefits of home staging.

The Orange County Round Table meeting is in January headed up by Janice Sutton and to be held at Brook in Newport Beach, CA.

Georgina, yes it was wonderful. Loved it and enjoyed meeting all the Stagers. By the way, I'm headed to Maui next week, just noticed that you are in Maui. How's the flood situation?

Missy, you are one of the smart ones that realize how important it is to stage. So many Realtors think they can stage...we had to before staging appeared on the scene but what we did was delete furniture and perhaps add a few goodies. Quite a difference with the professional stager and what they do. It's so important for us to back them and let them sell themselves to our Sellers.

Linda, absolutely! We really need to have them talk to our Sellers and sell themselves. It's not our job to sell them any more than it's their job to present CMA's. But, we are a life-line for them and they for us. We need to work together for the common good.

John, it was my pleasure. Together we all make a GREAT team...each being the professional in our own given field.

Mary, it was a great way to end the week and what a thrill to finally meet Craig. We reminisced about the early days of Active Rain and do miss those days when we all knew each other...a smaller Active Rain.

Jeff, I second your comment and miss Craig's writings here on AR. We talked about that and how Active Rain has grown. I'm hoping that he will write more here vs his "pretty blog."  He certainly was the catalyst in propelling the Home Stagers...I hope they realize that.

Maureen,I can't imagine a Realtor not knowing the positive effects of good staging and for those that don't I certainly hope that they soon find out that as a team, working together not only does the house sell the majority of the time but they sell for more than a home unstaged or is it de-staged?

William, hard to believe that there are Realtors that haven't caught on yet, isn't it. Most of us have been staging for years and now there is a professional group that can provide the service full blown. The smart sellers will pay for a home stager if they want to sell and sell for more than the vacant home.

Ann, oh I'm so glad that Lori invited me. I would have hated to miss such a wonderful opportunity.

Kristina, oh you will have such fun...there is nothing like meeting folks you blog with and your peers. All of you are so lucky that you had someone like Craig Schiller to bring you together and be such an advocate for the Home Stager. Have a wonderful time in January at your Round Table Discussion!

Diane, yes they did mention at the Round Table Discussion that you too, were having your get together. Realtors seem to have been a good part of the discussion and it's so sad to see Realtors doing the very same thing they grip about others doing...some Realtors are dabbling in staging and really need to leave that to the Home Staging professional. Dabbling is never the best for the consumer.

I realize that there are those Sellers who wish to not spend any money and for those perhaps the Realtor can make some suggestions but to really have a place "SHINE" requires the professional that spends 24/7 learning and doing. Home Staging is in my opinion, the way to sell a house in the least amount of time for the most amount of money.

Realtors need to back the Home Stager and invite them in to pitch their own profession to the Seller!

Lori, you are such a peach to have invited me. I would have been furious if you hadn't given me that opportunity...

You did a fantastic job at organizing all these ladies and having Craig fly in was the icing on the cake.

You are truly remarkable and I can only hope that more Realtors find their strength by teaming up with other Home Stagers in their area. Together we make a Mona Lisa!

Thanks again for including me with your Round Table Discussion group.

Gena - There are still some roads closed, but the crews are busy cleaning things up.  I think power is back on everywhere.  Some big water mains broke upcountry.  It's not back to normal yet.  We were lucky as we were in the lee for this storm so suffered no damage, just very muddy.

If you're coming to the north shore, call me and we can meet for lunch or something.

aloha!

And Kudos to Lori. I too, am anxious to read her recap.

Georgina, I would love to meet you. I will be in Lahina. I'll check out your profile and get your cell phone number so I can give you a call. I've already made reservations at Mama's .... I just love that place. Did Lahina suffer any damage?  I keep wondering if they really want tourists there with all this.

Gena, WHAT an absolute delight it was to meet in person, who I have "known" for over a year now.

THANK YOU for stopping in and giving all the stagers your candid insight on staging and how we can impove our how we do what we do for realtors.

Plus thanks for your words redirecting me back to my blogging roots.

I look forward to seeing you more in the big puddle.

Craig, I had a wonderful time and it was so nice to meet all of the professional Home Stagers...we are so lucky to have such a resource to help make a gorgeous package when selling a house.

The Home Stagers are so lucky to have someone like you in their corner and to bring them to the forefront.

Can't wait to read you once again and it was marvelous to finally get to meet you face to face.

Charles,it really wasn't my place to discuss that so I put a link on over to Lori's blog article where she sums up the meeting. Much was discussed about organizing themselves, the terminology to be used, accreditation and the role of the Realtor.

They are a great group of professionals and need our support.

Shell,it was great meeting you, as well. The Staging that I have done is nothing like what you folks do. Over the years, long before anyone heard of staging I simply would have sellers remove clutter, remove furniture and place little vignettes where appropriate. However, I never brought in furniture and staged vacant homes. Big difference...I'll leave that to the pros, like yourself.

Gena,

Looks like you had a great time!  Laura and I met with Craig and other Rainers in Chicago for the birthday bash.  He was a great host!

I didn't know that you could add music other than the "list" for the RE shows.  Is there a button I missed?

Take care,

Lucky :)
