Omaha Real Estate     Contributed by David Matney with Alliance Real Estate

Everyone is well aware of the recent tragedy in Omaha.  One of the victims was Beverly Flynn with NP Dodge.  NP Dodge has stepped up to the plate and is established a fund to support her family.  Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to work directly with Beverly in a transaction but from what I have read she was a very nice person.  I have also read that when Beverly sold a home to a new buyer she planted a rose in their front yard to commemorate the event.

Recently, the MLS committee voted to rebate/refund the MLS dues to the membership for the month of January.  I propose that those funds be donated to Beverly's family instead.  I believe that would be a better use of those funds.  I do not know the "bylaws" or the "rules" of the MLS committee but this just seems to me like the right thing to do in light of what we have just went through.

I believe we have over 2,700 members of the MLS.  At $30 per person that adds up to over $80,000.  I read that Beverly had three daughters and maybe this might help send them to college.

Thank you,

David Matney, CRS,GRI

What an awesome gesture and suggestion! .....Her family is in our prayers - she was a giver of roses for those clients/families she served to remember her each season they bloom

Jeff and Grace, thanks for the comment.  However, I suspect that it will have to be done on an individual basis because many agents need the money or they do not like to be told they have to have a mandatory "donation" at a board level.  We have some great companies and individual members of our local board so if it's not done at the board level, I'm sure that folks will rise to the occasion.

OMG I missed this in your blog until now.  I'd be interested to hear if anything every became of it.  That is an awesome idea.  At NP Dodge the company opted to cancel the annual Christmas party and donated all of those funds to Beverly's family.  I know you won't see them say that but I thought it was an awesome gesture and certainly was going to be no party knowing one of out own agents families were in so much pain.

I think that whatever anyone can do for the Flynn Family will always be greatly appreciated whether its canceling a x-mas party to donate the funds or just donating a teddy bear... they will still appreciate it in every way possible!
