I read with delight the story in our local newspaper, the Las Cruces Bulletin, about a couple in Las Cruces who purchased an old home in the Las Cruces Alameda Depot Historic District to make their dream home. The home was in total disrepair, almost a tear-down, and would have discouraged most people from even walking through the door, much less considering living in it!
But the old adobe structure had good bones, and this couple had a vision. They gathered a team of building professionals and they set out to make this home beautiful, preserving its hisorical character, but they now have a LEED certified energy efficient home with a HERS Rating of 55. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards help assure that a home is comfortable, healthy, and sustainable. When completed, this couple will have a home that is far more energy efficient that most brand new homes in Las Cruces, and they will live in a charming, historic neighborhood within walking distance to downtown Las Cruces.
Las Cruces has an abundance of historic homes, some gorgeous and impressive, some quaint and cute. Some have falen into disrepair and are desperately in need of a makeover. For those who want to move into a beautiful historical home, check out the link below. This home has already been restored, and is move-in ready.
