I currently use a 6 or 7 year old HP digital camera.  They don't even make these anymore.  My pics are ok, nothing magnificent.  I want to buy a good camera, one perhaps with a wide angle option, which can capture the room in a more professional way.  So, to my fellow bloggers, friends and clients...  HELP.  I don't want any techno babble, since I can barely make a ham sandwich!  Keep it simple and dumb it down for me.

Please give me advice as to what my new camera should have, feature-wise, and what price range I am looking at.  I am cost conscious.

Thanks, and,

Happy Selling,

Whoa... depends on your budget. The wide angle camera is just the beginning though. What you shoot, how creative you are and basic photography skills are just as important. I would not just thrown money at a new camera. Photoshop those shots too..the time and attention you give to crop out this, add that for the sizzle that sells the steak is key. I wear a Fuji still camera in one holster, a sony video camera in the other. What are you willing to spend? Not just on the camera.

Can I get a good camera for $500?  $750?  Thanks for the tips...

Michael,

Most cameras will get you a decent image, without spending a ton of $$$.

Don't get hung up on megapixels.  You can deliver fine quality with 8MP cameras, and most cameras are well over that figure.  Other features are more important.

So, I would tend to consider a wide, super-wide, or ultra-wide angle lens as a must have.

That wide angle lens opens up rooms a little, letting you show small rooms better.

24mm wide angle would be about a minimum, and can be difficult to find in a point and shoot.  Point and shoot is what I think of first when you mention price sensitivity.

Whoops, I see "$500-$750."

Yes you can buy a dandy camera at that.  Lenses are where the real money is, however.

I paid $639 for a fine Canon T2i, and I rent a wide angle lense when I need it, for about $20/day.  It would cost me about $550--$700 to buy that lense alone.

Before spending that much, you need to do some detailed research.

I bought a camera for less than 150 and with Photo Shop and the likes would match it with any camera. It is a one shot with video at best buy.
