This beautiful Ford Roadster and I both came into this world in the year 1948.

I love cars.  You do as well, or you wouldn't have stopped by to read my post.

The Rotary Club of Tucson held a fund raiser a few weeks back to benefit The Reading Seed program here in Tucson.  According to one of the past presidents, they expected a couple hundred entries.

They had more than 500.  They expected to sell 8,000 tickets.  They sold nearly 14,000.

If you're selling real estate, this is one trend you don't want to ignore.  Every major real estate market has Car Clubs and Car Shows.  If you're a real estate agent or a lender with some extra time on your hands in this market, I've got an idea that might help your sales.  We'll get to it in a moment.  Stick with me.

Baby Boomers like me are entering retirement (I said like me--I'm not retiring) and they are spending money on their cars and trucks.

This past week I had the pleasure of showing three homes in the Dove Mountain enclave near Tucson, Arizona.  Dove Mountain's Gallery Golf Club is home to the Accenture Match Play Championship, with the top 64 players in the world competing.

Back to cars.  The three homes listed from $1.8 million to $3.4 million.  All had oversized garages.  Two had both an attached garage and a separate detached garage.  Boomers love their cars.

So instead of buying leads in 2008, and in addition to creating strategic partnerships with other professionals, why not do what the Rotary Club of Tucson did?

Sponsor your very own LOCAL car show.  Advertise for entries.  Get your local car club signed up as a Co-sponsor.  Offer to send a mailing to their members.

Create a website where people can sign up to attend. Capture current info.

Involve Active Rain from the get go.  Promote AR on the website.  In doing so, you'll promote yourself and your business.

Benefit a local charity.  Which one?  I don't know.  I live in Tucson.  But I'll tell you this.  It needs to be local, because you're looking to strengthen LOCAL relationships to grow your LOCAL business.

If you live in Arizona, New Mexico or Southern California, click on the Tucson Classics Car Show logo above.  It's a link.  It will take you right to their web page.  Sign up to attend next year's show.  It will be fantastic.

Maybe, if you facilitate some entries from your local car club for the Tucson Classics Car show, one of the Rotary members will answer your questions about how to pull this off in your neck of the woods.  I might be able to help with that.  Call me.

Are you thinking...

  • too much time
  • too much money
  • too complicated
  • how can this help me sell loans or real estate

I'm thinking...

  • new sphere of influence
  • new, current mailing lists
  • new, current email lists
  • new relationships
  • no first time buyers!!  Yay!
(sorry, I got carried away there)

As an Active Rain member, you blog here because it creates new relationships for you.  It works, doesn't it?  Well, this is no different.  It's just another way to meet people and grow your business.

If you're a real estate professional reading this, and you're not a member of the Active Rain Real Estate Network, sign up!  It's free.  It will change the way you think about real estate and the internet.  That's a good thing!

And that's the real estate opinion of this Tucson, Arizona mortgage lender,
Mike in Tucson

Sally, check out the link to the rest of the cars and trucks.  This was a phenomonal success, and the entries were absolutely fantastic.  Thanks for being the first to comment.

One of the agents in our office has a young son.  Each year they participate in the soap box derby.  His car is a fully dressed "RE/MAX" car.  Lots of publicity, plus tons of fun with his son.  Nice combination :-)    Great idea Mike!

Them's some fine-lookin' rides!

PS For anybody thinking about putting together any type of event on your own turf.  Please be sure to know what's what with liability insurance/responsibility.  The last thing you need is some visitor tripping and falling on the grounds, breaking a leg, and serving you with a personal injury lawsuit.

LOVE IT! It seems that the best car shows are in the drier climates like AZ and the West Coast! We do not get that many in our area....Thanks for the peek!

Mike, Those cars look amazing.  Great post aswell.  We had a small car show last year that I posted in Localism as well but they did not have as many amazing cars as yours did.

Mike--My husband is quite the car buff and in MN the cars are out all summer. We attend a lot of car shows and always have. We keep toying with the idea of getting one as I really think it would set my RE business apart in parades and at open houses. My husband's dream has always been a 57 Chevy 2Door hardtop but we think one of those Pickups with would be a better real estate car. Fun idea! Good to know that it works.

Nice cars! We had one of those 'woody' station wagons when I was a kid!  There's a car show that runs constantly at the Imperial Palace Casino, I keep saying I'm going to get there to see it but it hasn't happened yet.

Mike,

My county has a car show every early October--Seacruise--and it's a lot of fun.  I did a post on it this year.  Our market isn't a major one, but our car show it pretty nice and it brings in a lot of tourists who may decided they want to stay in our wonderful community by the sea.

Mike, Great pictures, fun, and ideas.  By the way, I notice you mentioned showing homes.  Are you also a REALTOR?  I assumed you only did mortgages?

This is great a 1948. I was born in 1947 actually tomorrow is my 60th birthday.  I don't know why Iam announcing that but it is funny our Rotary has talked about have a car show for years.  It sounds like a great idea.  Look at the success that one was. What you suggest about doing my own seems like a huge task.  I will re-read. Off to dreamland. Best.

This sounds like an idea that could be a huge success for almost anyone in any market.  Your post is very inspiring and presents a new and fun way to increase the SOI.

Not yet licensed,

Thanks for the encouragement!  Let me know if you do sponsor a show.

Everard,

Hey, you can re-blog it!  I watch Barrets on tv; I've never been to one.
