Learn Katy History at the Katy Heritage Museum

The actual site where old Katy Texas is situated today was once only wide open coastal prairie loaded with abundant wildlife, Native American hunters and numerous birds, ducks and geese . Until the late 1800’s this area was only a stage coach stop between Houston and San Antonio. During 1895 the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad set tracks and when a depot was built in 1898 Katy was already a flourishing small town with new citizens and growth. A majority of these early settlers were farmers who produced rice, cotton and citrus crops.

The Katy Heritage Museum is a 9,600 sq. ft. museum which contains vintage farming equipment and artifacts from Katy’s early agricultural and pioneering days. These items are on display for all to see and learn. There are numerous old photographs, and many unique antiques. The Museum is located at 6002 George Bush Dr. Katy Texas ( Old Katy). The museum is open from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. every Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday and the first weekend of every month. The best part is the cost is my favorite answer of FREE. Groups can contact the museum for special tours.

Free is a very good price for many folks looking for interesting things to do. This would be a great family adventure - teach the history of agriculture in Katy and have a nice outing. The Katy Heritage Museum sounds like a wonderful place to visit in Katy Texas.

Howdy and evening Bob

Bob my friend, Museums like the Katy Heritage Museum sure are a real asset to a community. They sure help the folks of a community to be able to understand just what went on the area before they lived there. Its mighty important to keep the History alive for all generations and for new folks to an area to learn.

The Katy Heritage Museum sure is the kind spot which I enjoy visiting!

I'm sure glad that you wrote this here mighty fine blog post to add with all the other mighty fine Localism posts, to help folks to know about spots to visit and the many different events which are going in the mighty fine Katy community.

Have a good one
