Weichert, Realtors® is Helping Military Veterans Find a New Career Path in Real Estate

After proudly serving our country overseas, military veterans transitioning to civilian life have many critical decisions to make, not the least of which is figuring out "what's next" in terms of a career.

To help returning veterans find a new career direction, Weichert, Realtors® has begun offering free real estate career seminars as part of a pilot program in New Jersey.  Veterans who decide to take the first step by obtaining a real estate license will receive a $100 discount on pre-licensing classes from Weichert Real Estate School.

The first seminar, held recently at a local military base, attracted some 36 service men and women.  Attendees heard Weichert's South Jersey Director of Career Development, Gus Norton, give an overview of what a real estate career entails and outline what's involved in obtaining a real estate license.  After his presentation, Norton fielded numerous questions and passed out informative handouts "One Career Synonymous With Success," which included an 800 number to call to register for pre-licensing classes at any of Weichert Real Estate School's 15 locations in New Jersey.

According to Norton, who served four years in the U.S. Navy, many skills honed in the military directly translate to a real estate career.   Specifically, he cited how the demands of military life build time-management and organizational skills, along with self-discipline, and also accustom one to working outside the 9-to-5 routine. "Twelve-hour days are nothing unusual for those in the military," he said, "so they're not going to be dissuaded from a real estate career by the long hours it might take to bring a home sale together."

Weichert, Realtors soon will host another real estate career seminar for returning military in New Jersey and, depending upon interest, will conduct them monthly.  If the pilot program proves successful, the career seminars may be extended to other states in the future.

James M. Weichert, president and founder, said, "All of us owe a debt to the men and women who wear our nation's uniform.  By offering these seminars and providing insights into the many advantages of a real estate career, we like to think we're opening up to them a rewarding civilian career path that they might otherwise not have considered."
