Beauty and the Beast

(Wilmington, DE) — Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, supported as always by a wide variety of area businesses and by the students and families of this vibrant educational institution, is proud to be presenting the classic and well-loved Disney musical, Beauty and the Beast.  After Mount Pleasant’s tremendous success last year with the incomparable musical Les Miserables: Student Edition, the Directors chose to theatrically remain in France but to liven the tone.  Coming on the heels of the 3-D release of the animated movie in local theaters, Beauty and the Beast will be a great delight to audience members of all ages. This year’s Mount Pleasant musical will be directed by Chris Turner (Rent, Assassins, Parade at Wilmington Drama League and Les Miserables: Student Edition at Mount Pleasant) and Tina Sheing (School House Rock, The Wiz, Honk, Bye Bye Birdie for the Brandywine School District Summer Stock; Footloose, Damn Yankees, Seussical, Oliver at Mount Pleasant; The Life, Seussical, and the upcoming Bye Bye Birdie at the Wilmington Drama League); Choreography by Trish Ignudo; Musical direction by Christine Steif; Technical direction, Lighting Design by Laura Nichols; Sound Design by Tom Dean; Set Design by James Kerrigan; Costume Design by Terilyn Cecil and Dorinda Dove.

Based on the Academy Award winning movie, the stage version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast transports audiences to a tale as old as time, where Belle, a young girl with big dreams, goes about her everyday life in a small French town. When her father becomes lost while traveling to sell his newest invention, Belle goes after him in hopes of saving the one person who understands her. Soon they both find themselves in a castle where larger than life objects keep a watchful eye, protecting their master, the Beast. In order to save her father, Belle promises to stay with the Beast, and along the way they both teach other a few things about life and how true beauty lies beneath the surface.

Featuring hit songs, "Be Our Guest", "Belle", and "Beauty and the Beast",  Mount Pleasant's production is sure to entertain audiences of all ages, from the youngest princess to the oldest Beast. Surprises wait for all who attend, and maybe a rose will light in the end!

Beauty and the Beast will be performed with a full orchestra on Thursday, March 15 at 7:00 pm, Friday March 16 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at Mount Pleasant High School, 5201 Washington Street Extension, Wilmington, DE 19809.
