The best thing about having a great friend is that they always share great information. I never know what I might find when I log into Active Rain, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Today's big winner was a friend on Facebook. It was a link for a website called Howjsay.com. It is very simple, you type in a word and the computer will give you the correct pronunciation of the word.

Of course I had to check it out and of course I did my best to test it.  It passed with flying colors.  Oh, how I wish this had been available when I was learning to read. I remember sitting at the dining room table trying to pronounce "sword". Oh the frustration that would have been avoided.

Here is a great website to check out. www.howjsay.com

Hi Kathy.  Another great website is dictionary.com.  It also allows the visitor the ability to hear how each word is pronounced (click on the horn next to the word you are looking up), in addition to the definition, word origin, synonyms, thesaurus, etc.  I have the site bookmarked in my favorites.

Good information to have. But I bet it doesn't have the unique local versions of some words!
