Iowa State Law requires that any person born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources oversees and provides the program for the entire State of Iowa. You must be 11 years old to register for the class but 12 to be able to be issued a certificate. A minimum of 10 hours are required to complete the course, although some classes are longer. Most classes are free but some may charge a fee.
Statewide courses can be found in the education database on the Iowa Department of Natural Resources website. The IDNR also offers other safety courses including snowmobile safety, boating safety, bow hunter education, fur harvester, which you will also find on this website.
