Flags of Our Fathers, directed by Clint Eastwood follows the lives of several mambers of the armed forces who landed on Iwo Jima and were the flag plaanters in one of the most famous pictures of World War II. The film follows the heroes them basically from the landing through the end of their lives, focusing much of the movie on the subsequent tour they made after planting the flag raising support for the war.
I thought this movie was really well done, and if I recall, won several awards. There are a lot of movies portraying different wars from different perspectives but this was a real eye-opener as to some of the things that went on behind the scenes of the war back in America. There are extremely violent scenes, so I wouldn't recommend for youngsters, but there is more story than fighting.
