On awakening this morning the news was constantly reporting on the icy road conditions, ice covered power lines and traffic accidents all over the city.

Since I had no scheduled appointments and my day was pretty much my own, I decided that once the sun came up (there was no sun today - at all!) that I would throw on some jeans and my snow boots and take off with the camera to gather some inspiration - compliments of Mother Nature.

I called a friend, picked him up and we stopped and got coffee at the Java Mill.  Then we headed north to Halfway Creek in search of just that one perfect photo.  Halfway Creek is just over the Michigan line about a mile north of my house and is quite rife with some of nature's most interesting vegetation.

Finding the subject matter was not difficult, but finding decent light was another thing completely.  There was dense fog hanging low and it made the sights appear all that much colder.

We decided that we were going to search out cat-tails and evaluate the layers of ice on them.  Big disappointment - the cat-tails looked like they had seen better days, so we chose a few other points of focus.

These are certainly not the best photos I've ever taken, but they certainly convey how cold and ugly it was today.

Better than that, the ice covered plants reminded me that while they may be temporarily unproductive, they are recuperating so that they will return stronger, more colorful and more productive.  Kind of like the way we survive in this seasonal/cyclical profession known as Real Estate.

Hi Carol:  Thanks so much for braving the cold and taking all of these excellent pictures.  I am sure it is just as cold in Cleveland, where I am from.  Here in Fort Worth... well it actually was on the "nippy" side today.  Low 40's I think.  I called Nordstrom this afternoon to check on some boots I saw in one of their emails.  He said they don't carry them in Fort Worth... they all got shipped to Chicago... LOL.  Thanks again for the great shots.  Stay warm...

Carol, I think the photos came out great.  You can FEEL the grayness there which is what we've had in NY these last weeks.  Today is a bit of sun before another storm, time to get out for a bit and enjoy it!

I love when you take your camera out! I miss the snow but not the ice, wow what a mess! Glad you had no pressing business today!

Carol:  I'm getting cold just looking at your pics. I LOVE them. It is so warm here today that I'm wearing short sleeves. I really want a winter storm. Is that too much to ask?? I am going to pout until it snows. ;-)

Karen - I think Cleveland had more snow than ice.  But that's not unusual, ya know.  LOL  And if you're looking for boots, check out Macy's.  They had some gorgeous ones when I was in there the other day.

Carole - Today was just as grey.  No sun, just lots of rain, mist, mud and yuck.  LOL  I would prefer a good snow any day!

Lysa - I love the snow, I just accept the ice as a by-product of winter.  LOL  But I'll take either one of them over temps that get over 80 degrees max.  We have a friend that says I am well suited to living in the Yukon or the Arctic.  LOL

Elizabeth - You can have those warm temps.  I'm a cold weather gal all the way.  When I lived in Canada we would hit -60 at night and I'd bundle up and take the dog for a walk.  Of course I put multiple pairs of baby socks on his little feet.....

Hi Carol:  Ahhh... the good old Cleveland Lake Effect snow.  I remember it well.  Sometimes over a foot of snow out of nowhere.  Thanks for the suggestion...

Joan - if you're cooking, I'm on the way!  LOL  I'll take the pictures, you stir the pot.  Deal?

Hi Karen - yep, lake effect snow!  And we are supposed to get more starting around 4 AM.  I love it when it snows - the more the better!
