Ho'okipa Beach Park - Maui HI - December 2007

Beach scene on maui's north shore

hanging out at Hookipa Park Maui

Today was another beautiful day on Maui - the Kona storm has passed and things are back to normal here on the north shore.

This was the scene at Ho'okipa Beach Park, with the usual smattering of beach-goers, surfers, windsurfers and kite-boarders.  Waves were mid size, nothing like the 20-footers we had last week.  With the warm water and gentle tradewinds, it was a perfect day for going to the beach.

I stopped in with my dad and we both took some pictures.  It didn't long to get a bunch of good shots, and we were back on our way.  No time for swimming today, there's Christmas shopping to do.

Nearby Paia town has some great shops filled with those special little things to mail off to family on the mainland.  There are some tourist shops, lots of boutiques and various restaurants, some food stores, and much more.  I bought a nice painted coconut, and some locally made jewelry, and a cute pottery turtle.  My dad found himself a colorful aloha shirt and some other knick knacks.  We went to Mana Foods for the fresh veggies and milk we needed.  Got some cards and things mailed off at the Post Office, and then we were done.

Hookipa Beach Park Maui Hawaii

Ho'okipa is Hawaiian for "to make welcome" and it's a great place to meet people for a day in the sun and surf, and to make a party.  Kids are always coming and going to surf at "pavils" on the north side of the beach where it's a little more protected, and the waves are smaller.

The park has good facilities such as showers and bathrooms, plenty of parking, and shady pavilions for sitting and eating and talking story.  There are barbecues and fresh water taps, so cooking and clean up is made easy.  We used to party here a lot when we lived much closer, but lately it's only once in a while, usually when there's a surf contest for the local kids.  It's about that time of year again, and I'm ready!

The north shore of Maui is a fast growing part of the island. This area is my specialty.  What are you looking for?  If you're looking for a home in Paia or an oceanfront property, I can help.  Give me a call.

Suzanne - I'm in heaven alright.

Susan - Yup, even being stuck in traffic isn't so bad.

Sally - thanks for the nice comment!

Mehmet - You could think about a vacation to Maui in the meantime.

Georgina,

the vacations are the worst when I come back... everytime i come back from vacation, i find myself trying to find ways to move out of Utah.. then the reality check comes in... I can't   :)  my wife and I both have our own businesses and we are kind of stuck   :)

Yes Georgina, truly paradise.  Glad things are back to normal.  I wouldn't care about a storm in Maui, I'd be there right now even if it poured most of my trip.  The island is so beautiful but the spirit of it's people is what makes it even more special.  I'd be stuck indoors with a good lot.

Georgina, you are so fortunate to live in paradise.  The one thing I miss about my corporate life is the five weeks of paid vacation every year, two of which, I would faithfully spend in your lovely state.

Mehmet - I know what you mean - I was bitten by that bug after coming here just once.

Toni- At least it's warm when it rains!  Very windy here today.

Don - You were indeed lucky back then.

We decided long ago that it didn't make much sense to spend all year dreaming of a trip to Maui, when we could move here and spend every weekend on Maui.  Of course it wasn't easy at first, and it still takes a lot of hard work to keep afloat here, but it has gotten easier after a few decades!

This is so beautiful and warm Georgina! It's around 0C here - last year at this time I was in Cuba, but no chance this year! Ahh, those beach shots are sooo very beaconing me....

Thanks nice post!

This is a great spot, it is one of the premier windsurfing beaches in the world. This is the spot to buy Real Estate!! Maui has so much to offer.

Deborah, did you know WestJet flies directly to Maui in the winter months?

Elaine, you're right, windsurfers buy plenty of real estate around here.

Yes I did know that Georgina, thanks. However present circumstance will not have me flying anywhere internationally - my passport expired in August - just snuck up on me. That's fine - at the same I have plenty to do before I'm going off anywhere, which is why I was admiring your fabulous shots. ahh...

Geezzz, How could that not have been featured? How beautiful. How's the cost of living there anyway? Are you low on Realtors??? Just curious Georgina! Deb

Georgina - Every time I look at one of your beautiful pictures I am constantly comparing the BLUE of the water with the sand and the trees,,, sand and trees look true  - so WOW  that is some magnificent BLUE water !

Your beach is so beautiful. I do the same thing all the time, with taking pictures. I just have to stop! But our beaches (and the entire state of Florida) are just so flat and un-interesting. It's so cool to see the unique shorelines in Hawaii.

12/21/2007 05:18 PM by Lisa Hill (Daytona Beach REALTORĀ®) (Adams Cameron and Company)

Deborah - well maybe next year will be a good time

Debra - the cost of living is pretty high.  a lot of people work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet.  we have about 1660 licensed agents in Maui county.

Richard - yes, it's really that blue and pretty, it's amazing.

LIsa - these islands have some incredible terrain compared to Florida

thanks for your comments
