Today I skied Timberline on Mt Hood located in north central Oregon. Reaching towards the heavens at 11,000 feet it is a formidable presence in an early morning sunrise from Portland Oregon. Chris and I got up early this morning, jumped in the SUV and pointed it in an easterly direction but once on the road we were treated to a pleasant surprise of watching the sunrise over Mt Hood.
The drive was easy and having no traffic in our way we arrived to Mt Hood right 8:45am just in time for the 9am opening. Getting geared up is a snap and soon we had our lift pass and were heading up the lift to make our first turns for the day. Chris was wearing his brand new helmet cam (the camera angle needs to be worked on) and being my first time at Timberline we thought the terrain park would be the best spot.
Working on the booters in the parks has been a fun and challenging item to my skiing especially since I am almost 30. Landing has become the most important part because that is were injuries can be created or avoided with slight changes in speed and re-entry angles. My knees can't take much more of this abuse so it is very important that I clear the gaps and land on the down hill transition. Being a tad over zealous, I was over shooting my landing by 10 feet or so and landing in the flats. Though that make look cool, it is a killer on the feet, knees and every other part that is a tired tonight. The snow was pretty crunchy off the groomers so Chris and I stayed on the main trails all day.
I had a great time and this blog is coming to you from the Marriot Hotel in Portland Oregon. Well gotta run and lay on my bed and nurse the sore spots. Take care everyone!!
