Green is the color of Spring in Charlotte. Although the green leaves won’t have arrived yet on March 17th, there will be plenty of green around as Charlotte celebrates St. Patrick’s Day.
You can kick off the day at the 16th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in uptown Charlotte. The bagpipes will be playing as the parade steps off at 11:00am and marches down Tryon Street from 9th Street south to 3rd Street. Flags, floats, cheerleaders, drill teams and anyone who wants to be Irish for a day join the parade. Last year’s parade had 60,000 spectators lining the street.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade ends at the Charlotte Goes Green Festival. Irish music, dancers, bagpipers, food and vendors will entertain festival goers between 1st and 3rd Streets. The Festival is free and open from 10am until 6:30pm.
Over at the U.S. National Whitewater Center, the river will turn green at 1pm on March 17th. The Center’s Green River Revival that day is free to the public. Live music will entertain guests all afternoon. There will be a PowerBall Race at 3:30pm. There is a cost of $5 per car to park at the Whitewater Center.
