Show Some Respect For Books!

I've never been a huge public library fan, preferring to own books rather than 'borrow' them.  I love going to bookstores and always find at least a few books to buy.  When our children were younger they would oftentimes rather go to a bookstore than a playground.  And, my wife is a writer, so I think you get the idea.  There are always stacks of books throughout our home and we all seem to be in the midst of reading at least a few books all the time.

Recently, I have become a fan of the public library.  Great concept.  Read it and return it.  Troubling to me though is what I am discovering with the book I am currently reading...."Judy Collins......Sweet Judy Blue Eyes.....My Life In Music".  This is an enjoyable book and an easy read.  I recommend it, whether you can or can't remember the sixties.

Now to get to my point.  Someone, prior to me, who had this nearly new book chose to bend the corners of the pages instead of using a bookmark.  That is really sad.  After all, this book belongs to the library.  Bookmarks are everywhere and nearly any card or scrap of paper can be used as a bookmark.

To make matters worse, this person seemed to read only a few pages at a time......therefore the book has dozens upon dozens of badly bent pages where they marked their place.  Stinks, doesn't it.  Hey, out there, bend your own books....not those that are meant to be shared with the rest of us.

Amen. Amen. Amen.  I'm with you on new books. My heart actually starts racing upon entering a book store.  I have so many books, I'm running out of places to put them. I read mostly non-fiction so they are not books I want to give up.  I appreciate the concept of libraries but I can never get past the idea of turning pages after someone else has turned them with hands that have been who knows where, sneezes and coughs, bent pages and broken spines.

Good Morning Tony, I too am a library user and reader and I agree with you that book belongs to the library you are only borrowing it. Leave it better than how you found it!

Tony, it is disrespectful. I like using my kindle, but the books for the kindle edition cost more than buying the paper edition.  I like Nathan's idea, give out book marks with our info on it!
