"...Nothing is going to get better. It's not."

Fitting closing words to The Lorax, Dr. Seuss' beloved storybook about the pint-sized crusader who "speaks for the trees".
Lorax - the movie
Theodor "Dr Seusss" Geisel was ahead of his time, writing The Lorax, his moving earth friendly short story when Earth Day was only one year old, would have turned 108 on the movie's opening day Friday March the 2nd, 2012.

Universal Studios has added love interest angle (Audrey) and a new villain (O'Hare - a tiny little fellow who gets rich selling citizens of Thneedville plastic bottles of air after the atmosphere becomes polluted when all the trees have been cut down) to the original 45 page book to make this visually effective, colourfully musical and wholly entertaining 94 minute movie.  Helen, Alec and I saw this movie in 3D on March 3rd, after Helen took her class to see the movie in 2D on Friday.  This bright and colourful movie translates very well into 3D, though reviews say that you will not miss much watching this movie in 2D.

This is an entertaining movie with a very poignant message which Dr. Zeuss delivers without becoming "preachy":

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot.  Nothing is going to get better, it's not."

Hi Chris - While I have no plans to see The Lorax, I had seen some commercials for it at the theatre when seeing other movies.

I love Dr Seuss and that looks like a lot of fun, and a great cast.  He really was ahead of his time.

Thanks for the recommendation Chris and the very important message. It always disappoints when they are preparing for a new subdivision and the first thing they do is chop down all the trees! Air in a bottle may become a reality if we don't do something.

Dale, we saw it Saturday afternoon, and there were a lot of children, but it is a timeless movie that will appeal to people of all ages.  I am sure you both will enjoy it.

Marc, Helen and I enjoyed the animated movies, even before Alec.  I think they are best suited for 3D.

Debbie, if we had only heeded his message back in 1971.  The second best time to heed his message is NOW!

Al and Peggy, I hate seeing a new subdivision, say "McLeod's Forest", but seeing no trees also.  It is a great movie to take the kids and grandkids to see.

Chris, good old Dr. Seuess seems to be hitting his stride with Hollywood these days, eventually all his books will become movies I'm sure. Kids always love his quirky and colourful characters.

Dr. Seuss is very popular in my home, seeing I have 5 year old twins. They can't wait to see this!

Hope you are having a nice week!

Chris, this is so true.  And, that is why people like me and people like you, have to do as much as we possibly can not only to keep being the canaries in the coal mines, but practice what we preach.  Thank you.

Good evening, Chris. I have to agree. Dr. Suess was ahead of his time in so many ways...
