What is your Thing?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with RICOASTALLIVING.COM

We all have a thing..

I was reading Carole Cohen's post about teaching and being part of the solution when it occurred to me that we all have something that we lean torwards.

With Carole, it is teaching. She is just starting to realize that she can combine her Real Estate expertise and her Teaching expertise. You can see it in her blogs where she is heading.

With Broker Bryant it may be a crusader! TLW is our Spiritual Leader. I see different people here on AR that are becoming the voices for different things.

Shari George has become the number one poster in the new Real Estate Rookie Group. giving advice on what to do when you are starting out.

Mariana Wagner  and Monika Mcguillicudy  have become the Ethics Gurus and both are trainers so we know where that is going!

Kristal Kraft  probably should have been a journalist combining her photography and writing skills.  Rich Jacobson  is definitely a mentor!

For the new year of 2007, take time to think about what your "thing" is. Make a point of paying attention to what it is you gravitate to. What do people seem to gravitate to you for?  I have always had people tell me their problems and then tell me they felt better after talking to me. I accept this as my thing. Sometimes we need to stop and take a slightly different path to actually find what we were meant to be doing.

Finding your thing and then consolidating it with Real Estate are when you will learn to enjoy both your life and career. What is your thing?

Happy New Year to all here at Active Rain! May 2007 be the year you find your thing:)

Karen, I know I have a "thing" but I'm not sure what it is. I told TLW yesterday that I'm torn between my humorous and serious sides on a daily basis. I'm just going to write what feels best at the moment!

Jeff - you are a "peole mover" a motivator - does everyone agree.  Don't choose between your 2 sides, that's what we like about you.

Great post, and what a nice way to indentify people's "thingies".  I don't know what mine is either - I like to write from the heart and have fun at it too.

Happy New Year Karen!

Happy Birthday, Karen. GEEZ, if we'd only known we could have pasted YOUR photo all over the place. Now I'd much rather look like you than Rich. ;-)

My "thingie" is asleep next to me.

Elaine,

Thankyou, and that sounds very kinky! (a sleeping thingy)   And I'm glad my photo was not pasted all over:)

Ines,

You say you don't know what yours is, but you then say "I like to write from the heart and have fun at it too" ?   Guess you do know. Happy New Year to you also.

Ann,

Thanks for the balloons!  Hmmm, I'll have to think about this awhile. Like I said before, others see things in people that they don't see themselves. And I see you as an Event Planner.

Jeff,

Just yesterday I was reading one of your comments on being a Lady of the Rain for the day and showing off your nice legs!   As Ines says, we like both sides. I think you are already doing what it is you want to do. Haven't figured out a name for it yet.

My second career is a fire fighter and I love helping people that way.  I just can't think of what could be said on a post like this that is related to real estate and fire fighting.  Maybe something like " I know a lot of you will be invited to office parties this time of the year, please be a responsible drinker and take a realtor with you that can be your designated driver....be safe, there are enough drunk drivers looking for an accident on New Year's Eve" or something like that.  Anyway I think it's a great post Karen and like what you say, people should gravitate to something they love talking about that can be useful to others.

By the way, realtor or not, this is a good time of year to be changing your smoke detector batteries.

Be sure to change those smoke detector batteries every year to stop your house from looking like this.

Hi Karen,

I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

I suppose my thingy is helping people.  Somehow they always gravitate to me, I assume it is because I am honest, frank and willing to share.

Carole

I believe there will be more pensive adiagos in 2007, unfortunately, I had one last nite and still have it this am!  Must have came in on the jet stream from your neck of the woods:)

Ken,

You are definitely still into firefighting! I was once married to a firefighter. Before he became one, our dates consisted of chacing fires! Once I watched him fighting a fire. That was probably the last time I went to a fire. (I was young:) Guess you are the go to man at the closing anyway making sure the detectors are all in place. I can't make the connection either Fires and Houses, almost like a paradox.

Laurie,

I guess you and I are alike in that way. I enjoy helping people. And honest and frank are my favorite qualities!  So Rare these days:

Elaine,

You shouldn't be calling the Murph a thingy:) My good friend has a dog named Murph and it is her "thingy" also. He had the flu or something a couple of weeks ago and it was very traumatic....He is her whole life.

You inspired me.  I slept on it, woke up this morning and posted a blog that combines my thing and real estate (I think)  http://activerain.com/blogsview/30643/Be-Safe-Rather-Than .  I would be interested in your input.

Thanks, Ken

Karen - hmmm......an "event planner" huh??  I am a planner, there's no doubt about that.  Wonder what made you see that in me?

I hope you had a nice birthday.  As my dad says to us, 'it beats the alternative'.....and it surely does!

Happy New Year!!

KAREN!  Happy Belated Birthday!!!!!!  I did NOT mean to miss it last year - now a NEW ONE is here!  Happy NEW YEAR TOO!

Another "thing" to title you with (from my perspective) would be a "Welcomer"/Greeter!  You do that very well!

Here's to ya:   Hope you like chocolate!

Diane,

Thankyou for the Birthday wishes...I looooovvvvvve chocolate, but you knew that, I bet!  I found out today that there is another way to welcome people besides the newbie group, and I hadn't thought of it. It is by going into the forums and sending them emails. It was Mark flanders that did it. What a great idea. Well I am trying anyway:)

Ken,

As I commented on your blog, you did a great job and now need to explore the two professions to find your link:)  Hmmm, I typed link but meant thing. Maybe link is better. Great work!

Kristal,

I meant it, you should be a journalist. And you have a third thing, traveling. I can see you riding around taking photos and reporting.

Ann,

It's funny, but the first time I read your posts, before I knew you a little, that was my thought. I think it was because you had a lot of posts on all the things that happen in New Hampshire and the events that were going on. The fact that you took the time to list them and write about them with pictures really hit me. This was when you first started AR also and you have continued to do it. Although I must add here that Real Estate and Event Planning are somewhat similar lately:)

THanks Karen.  Appreciate the input.

By the way, everyone has been wishing you a happy birthday and I feel remiss (I think that's the word) by not doing the same.  I tried counting the candles on the cakes that people have been giving you and can't quite make out your age so I just guessed it's between 18 and 21 (years of age that is).

 Happy Birthday Karen
