How does someone go about challenging their property tax assessment? How do they find out what the millage rates are for the area they are thinking about buying?

You tell me. In fact, while you're at it, take a chance to tell anyone and everyone that may be searching for that kind of information in your market. We recently received a letter in the mail from the county informing us that the assessed value of our home had changed for the purposes of our next property tax cycle.

If I had wanted to dispute those property taxes I would have immediately gone to google and done a search to find out how to go about doing that. People in your market are searching for information every day as it relates to property taxes and the variety of issues revolving around property taxes.

Let's make sure they are finding you and your blog when they go online to do this. Here are a few examples of some of the searches that have led consumers to ActiveRain members in the last 30 days

  • Wake County Property Tax
  • Prince William County tax assessment
  • Bergen County Tax appeal
  • Harris County mud tax
  • city of los angeles real estate transfer tax
  • gwinnet county property tax appeal
  • city of detroit property tax appeal

There are literally thousands of visitors in the last 30 days to posts written by ActiveRain members about property taxes, transfer tax and whatever the heck 'mud taxes' are..........not to mention a host of other posts that deal with tax issues of some sort, mostly as they relate to owning a home.

Are you getting some of those visitors to your blog because you've taken the time to be a resource for consumers in your market that are interested in learning about some of the tax implications of buying a home in your market or want to know how to appeal their properties assessed value? If not, you should be. So let this serve as your inspiration for the day.

I was surprised the other day when one of my best clients told me that she had paid someone to do a property tax appeal for her, when I would have been happy to help her with the form for free. This post is a  great idea.

Seems to be a nation wide topic.  Applies to everyone, yet the geographics would be different.  Great idea to write about.

Great insperation here.  I do get asked every now and then on how to dispute property taxes.  So I am going to work on a blog for that to see what kind of activity it will get.  Thanks

Here in Broward County Florida, you can go to the Tax assessor web site for the procedure on how to protest

your property taxes.

I helped my friend protest her and she got a refund check in the mail for over $4,000.
