Mary:  Another great idea from the Great NorthWet.  I hear many cities are doing this... and recently read where Seattle is going to dedicate a large portion of land inside the city to folks growing their own vegetables.

And yes... I love the taste of my own home grown vegetables.  I haven't done that since I was in my young twenties.

Karen Anne There is nothing better than home made tomato soup made from your own home grown tomatoes.  Fabulous.  I haven't had my own garden for several years.  My husband decided he needed a shop exactly where my garden was residing. LOL I am thinking I might try one of those 55 spaces if I get there quickly enough.

Mary:  Using a spelling mistake you made in your comment as the basis for a silly comment by me... I am guessing that when you said "I haven't had my own garden for several "ears..." I am thinking that corn must have been your major crop.

I must admit that the way you describe your homemade tomato soup with actual home-grown tomatoes sounds absolutely delicious.

Karen Anne,

I love it!!!! I sure did not catch that one, and yes we did have corn as well.  Bush beans and tomatoes had a large portion of the garden, but the "ears" were really good when we picked them, sweet. LOL

Mary, that's a really unique thing  that the Wilsonville community offers.  What a great way to have a garden.  And, I'm sure there's some great people everyone will meet, as well.  Love it!!!

What a wonderful opportunity for those living in your community, Mary!  Yesterday, I worked the soil in my backyard, so I can plant a few vegetables - Tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, etc.  It's raining today, and is slated to rain all week.  So it will be a few days before I put anything into the ground!

CONGRATULATIONS on having this blog FEATURED in the Feather Nesters group!

Hi Juli,

This whole Portland Metro area supports community gardens.  It is really a good thing for people who like to grow their own vegetables but have no garden space available. You see a lot of older people as well as it is an outing for them that is really productive.

Hi Myrl,

It really is a wonderful opportunity and well received. We have not worked up any soil here yet as it is so wet, everything would drown so I usually wait until May actually.  Then...I do have to say though that I missed the planting of lettuce and snow peas.  Darn.

Myrl thank you for the congratulations I appreciate it.

What a cool, local community idea.  I love fresh grown garden vegetables (especially tomatoes).  Might be fun to do it as a community :-) Kasey

Kasey... seeing your comment just reminded me that I love tomatoes so much that a few years ago I wrote a post on Active Rain titles "I Love Tomatoes."  I'll see if I can find it for you.

And... that little darling of yours seems to get cuter by the day.  Give her a gentle hug for me, if you would... :)

Kasey it really is a great idea and many communities around here do this.  It does bring the community together, people meeting new people and making new friends plus all of the good eats!
