ACCENTuate the positive...ATTITUDE is everything

Sounds simple enough, right?  Well, many folks have trouble with this concept- leading me to believe it might be a bit harder than I've always thought it to be.

Or perhaps the concept is easy and the practice is that elusive and unsolvable riddle many of us would be well served in by mastering.

ACCENTuate the positive...ATTITUDE is everything

I don't use ACCENT by accident- or solely for the cuteness of ACCENTuate.  Rather, a funny thing has happened over the last few days involving the way I talk.  I've had some showings that went well- and a couple of ladies remarked about how they loved my ACCENT.  One said it was "like butter" or something (whatever the heck that means- I guess that means, I guess it's good).

Now, folks have remarked about my ACCENT in the past- some favorably, some not so.  It is what it is, though.  "I'll speak my Southern English just as natural as I please..." is a line from "My Home's in Alabama"- and I do just that without apology.

But "butter"?  Hmmm...

I went to the library and the grocery store as well- and I had the library lady and the young grocery story lady smiling.  They both said they loved my ACCENT, and asked where I was from.  And that's when it hit me:  it's not all about the ACCENT- it's part ATTITUDE as well.

Here's the moral of this story, short and sweet:  I know it can't all be about the ACCENT.  Though it's difficult at times, I do my best to exude a positive ATTITUDE- and that's what folks are seeing.  Having a positive ATTITUDE lets me strive to reach the highest of highs- and gives me comfort when I sink to the lowest of lows.

Remember the old tank engine from elementary school?  "I think I can, I think I can..."  He made it to the top of the hill because of his positive ATTITUDE- it led him to succeed.

But what if he'd kept saying "I'm not getting there...I'm not going to make it..."?  ATTITUDE kicks in again- and his chances of success would've been a lot slimmer.  Do some "think I cans" fail?  Sure- but I'd bet the "think I can" failure rate is a lot lower than the "not getting there" success rate.

Being positive can allow you to overcome adversity much easier with a lower stress level.

Hi, Vern:  Thank you for dropping by, and for your comment.  Absolutely.  There are many variations of the adage, but I always say that

"We're united in that we're all dealt adversity;  we're divided by how we deal with it".

Dang...I'm going to have to use that more....

Attitude definitely makes the difference. If you don't have anything good to say, best to not even say it most of the time.  For the record, I like your accent.  Have a great day.

Hi, Rob:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment and kind words.  I've always done my best to hold to saying nice things when I can, but the other 1/2 of the equation has been a work in progress.  I'm getting there, though!
