In an earlier post about points I encouraged all of you to focus on the activities that the Rain Gods encourage of us by awarding points.

Does it it take time and effort.  Sure - you might spend more time on Active Rain commenting or even writing a blog post, and less time browsing through the online catalog of your favorite designer store - but it's worth every penny you DON'T spend!

Let's see - an hour a day on Active Rain could save you $100 a day in online purchases.

That same hour a day could - over time - gain you enough exposure to generate revenue from your participation in Active Rain!  Yes - we have just received our first referral attributable solely to our presence on Active Rain.

Rome wasn't built in a day - and neither will your online presence be.  Active Rain and Localism.com are great components to your online presence.

The point is - it does take a little effort.  And it does take time.  But it's worth it!

Suzanne, my husband would love this post.  He likes to see me in front of the computer rather than shopping at the mall.

LOL but it is true what you said, I think I do have saved some money by not being at the mall so much lately.  Gosh, I hope it doesn't affect the spending economic report : (

How about an active rain designation?  This is the cure for the seminar/business meeting/education junkie.
12:27pm • #9
It does take very little effort but takes time to say something relevant.  I spend about 1-hour each day reading and commenting then another hour or so to write a weekly blog.  Nothing earthshattering but market statistics and tidbits of info relevant to my market.  I wish I could be a GREAT blogger like my idols, KK BB TLW to name a few heavy hitters with lots to say but I feel more like a voyeur, sometimes I just can't add to the conversation...thanks for this post!  An AR designation...I'd like one too!

Localism.com, that's a new one on me. How similar is it to ActiveRain?

We'd love an AR designation!

The time spent on AR has not only helped us inch up the chain, but we've learned tons, too.  Real estate is not a stagnant career...you have to continue to learn every day, and AR is a great tool for that!

....I think once you start on AR, it's hard to stop!!!  Sometimes even when they flash the RED writing before me telling me that I'm not getting any more points, I'll continue.  It's not merely about the points to me, sometimes if I have somethings to share, I just want to continue.

OK, Suzanne:

I'm sending my wife an invitation to Active Rain.  This will keep her from the shopping malls for at least one hour a day.  I figure I'll save at least $500 per month.  Psst....you know her so don't tell her about my strategy.

Suzanne,

Very good point. How many times have you been in the office and seen your co-workers playing card games or instant messaging people on the computer when their time could be used in a much more productive way.

Suzanne,

I spend HOURS a day here on AR, but have never really thought of it in terms of dollars and cents!  I do know that I have a better Google ranking as a result of blogging and participating on AR.

Becoming a member of Active Rain was definitely one of my most positive accomplishments of 2007, and I thank each and every member (and non-member) who has helped me to grow through their blogs and comments!

Have a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous 2007!

Congratulations on your referral Suzanne. It is clearly well deserved. If I had someone I would refer to you, too! :)

Nothing at my end yet. But the value, to me, is the learning, marketing to consumers, and establishing relationships. And if some business comes out of it, then my ROI is pretty darn good.

I believe in the effort and what it can do for you on here, but in all honesty, I am going to leave the points thing alone for several reasons. There are many just writing blogs that have the same theme over and over.... write many short blogs, and some have no meaning at all.... just for points. You can tell when this takes place....

In either case.... happy new Year...
